Thats a fox skerl. In some places it is illegal, i would check my rules and regulations book or if you dont have one your state DNR has a website that has the rules and regulations.

Depending on what area you are from it may or may not be illegal. Black squirrels are very common in michigan. Some people call them fox squirrels. In ohio fox squirrels have a gray top and red underside. In Tennessee or at least where i lived the fox squirrels looked like teddy bears. Hell albino squirrels are becoming more common around my house. Just check the local regulations or call the DNR for info.

I seen lots of all black andall white squirrels where I hunt. I wouldn't shoot themeven ifthey are legal, not to much of those around. Unless you are going to mount it, They look really nice. A friend of mine just mounted two of them, one black and one white.

where i live theres about 1 black squirrel for every 3 gray squirrels, so they're not that uncommon. its completely legal to shoot them here and they taste just like any other squirrel. the reason they're black i think is just 'cause of a pigment in the skin color. when a single squirrel is born black and it breeds with another squirrel, the "black gene" is passed on. so really the black squirrels are geneticly inferior to the grays.
