first i'd position myself at a good vantage point to figure out where the hog holes are at and where the hogs themselves are at. once i located where a hog is if u can only use a 22 i'd lay down in the grass about 50yds or so from the hole and just wait him out try for a good head or neck shot with a 22 otherwise they will prob crawl back in the hole on u and maybe not die. the best time to get after them is about 2hrs before sunset and wait till about 20mins b4 dark than call it a day. hogs liek 2 come out right after a rainstorm also 2 eat the wet grass and they liek fresh green grass also. good luck.

I shoot lawn buffalo, aka ground hogs, all the time with my Ruger 10-22. They are practically an infestation on my uncle's farm. I try to hit the in the front half of the body somewhere and they never travel more than 10 feet before turning belly up and wetting themselves. I would just pick a spot not more than 50-60 yards away from the holes and set up a good rest and get to it. I have good buffalo hunting all day where I go, but I guess in other places they may only come out around dark. My suggestion would be to use a hollow point bullet. You only need to penetrate about 2 inches to get into the vitals and you want to do a TON of damage.

Also, I don't know if you can only use a 22 as far as rifles are concerned or if you have the option of using a shotgun too. Either way, you should stick to the 22. I have shot a whole lot of ground hogs with a 12 ga shotgun, even with buckshot, and for some reason the little pigs die about 672167368745 times faster when you shoot them with the 22.

by .22 im assuming you only mean .22 long rifle, if you are aloud to use a 223 or other, id consider and NEF in one of those calibers.

What's wrong with a .17 HRM? Better results I bet.
