Default Raccoon Problem

Hey Guys and gals,

I got a problem I have to get rid of a raccoon in a semi residential area at my g/f's mom's house. Stupid thing keeps eating the fish in the pond and making holes in the roof and siding. Any suggestions on how to do this without attracting to much attention? I was thinking maybe a .22 but I am not sure???

thanks for the help

Steve

I think your best bet would be a hav-a-hart trap(live trap). Use sardines as bait or if there are cats in the area use cotton candy. If you are dead set on shooting them. Try a mouse sqeeker call. For ammo I highly recomend Remington's Sub Sonic. It is a little bit louder than a pellet rifle. It doesn't have the crack sound like most .22lr ammo just a loud thud.

Buy a Hav-a Hart trap and some cans of sardines in oil.
Punch someholes on top of can with an ice pick, place in
trap.

I don't have to shoot them. We have tried some other things like spraying them with the hose but that just made her get P**ssed off and growl a me. i will have to try a trap. The problem is going to be keeping the cats out of it. How far will I have to move them so they won't come back?? Or should I trap them and then take them somewhere and ummm get rid of them??

Thanks guys

Trap them just like they said and trans port them away or kill them in the cage. My friends grand father use to catch them and then baptize them if you know what I mean.

I'd use the .22!

I had a problem with one last summer - sub-sonic 22 out of a bolt action rifle is very quiet and effective.

I'd use the .22!

shooting it would be messy, just use a trap and drive out somewhere remote set them free.

Trap will work fine, so would the .22. If she is aggressive toward you when you turn the hose on her, than she is habituated and can be considered a hazard to anyone who might not leave her alone. If you have access to the trap, use it. If not get the .22 out and do the job--just be sure of where that bullet will fly. If there are cats around and you don't want to mess with them in a trap, try a sweet bait. Marshmellows in a live trap with a couple at the door will likely entice it. Maple syrup and a little molassas makes a good lure as well.
