Heck HDW - I have some 165 grain lead bullets loaded in my .30-06 for cats!! Those guys are putting along at about 1400 fps, which should work just fine without doing much damage at all (If I ever actually get to get behind some hounds, lol). I was even thinking of loading up some 150, 165, 180, or even 220 RN Hornady's at lower velocities to work on cats. I am not sure completely yet. I am still working on a decent load in my other .30-06 with Partitions for deer hunting, and trying to find a load for my Yugo Mauser (which I must add is coming along quite well actually!).

how do you like that yugo mauser? there might be a good chance my grandfather milled the reciever on it. During WW2 my grandfather was a POW in Yugoslavia and milled recievers for a mauser plant there. I thought about buying one myself J&G was selling them here for around 180 bucks if i remember correctly.

I have a pretty good load going for my Russian M44, I took several boxes of russian brown bear 203 grain bimetal soft points pulled the POS bullets and dumped that dirty powder and then loaded the primed cases back up with H4350 and 180 grain swift sciroccos im getting excellent groups at 100 yards with open sights off a sand bag just a hair over an inch and a half I'll post pics tomorrow. I want to use them on black bear if i ever get drawn.

I can handload 20 cartridges of 308 that can easily surpass the most expensive premium factory loads for around 10 bucks or I can use some cheaper pills and load 20 rounds for around 5 bucks. Or i can use bulk core lokts and it rounds down to about 3 bucks for 20 rounds. 17HMR costs about 8 dollars a box, most factory loaded varmint 223 or 22-250 costs around 12 to 13 bucks a box. just to give you an idea that 308's for the handloader are pretty economical for varmint use.

Well, it is doing ok. I got it as issued from a Big 5 up here for about $160. It is in good shape, but there is virtually no value to it because of the stamping from the importing company, but oh well. To date, I have shot some 175 grain Sierras. The best I have done is about 1" at 50 yds. Yesterday I just finished loading 20 rounds (150 gr Hornady) over doses of IMR 3031 ranging from 44-49 grains (4 each). I was going to test those this morning, but that idea went to the crapper, considering it is a muddy, rainy mess out there right now[:@]

I took a Lion last year with my 30-06 I used a 165 grain fedral premium nosler which caused no damage exiting I severed an artery on the heart which ended it quickly.

Penetration - 125 nosler or 125gr Sierra pro hunter if they have them
Explsoive - 110gr V-Max. NOTHING is as explosive as a V-max, well maybe some dynomite.

Im using 110gr Hornady SP's right now.
