RE: checkmate take-down bow

Thanks guys. I don' t consider these types of bows ugly. odd maybe, but not ugly. Putting the riser in front of the limbs like that seems like it would make for a forgiving shooter.

RE: Arrow Weight

The most reliable chart and the best info on arrow tuning I' ve found is at http://www.bowmaker.net/index2.htm then click on bow tuning. I found about four different arrows recommended by the...

RE: laminated arrows?

I tried to get some, but the arrow maker said he couldn' t get ' em strong enough for my bow. Didn' t think it was that heavy, but it' s hard to find aluminum, what with the light and fast craze....

How long is your bow and draw length? Sounds like it could be finger pinch.

RE: Greatest archer?

Greatest bowhunter? Hmmmmm. Greatest politician? Fred Bear. What he did had the most impact on the status of bowhunting today than any (all) of the others.

RE: caribou hunt, man am I pumped....

Might try perfecting your caribou impersonating. Saw a show the other day where a guy "snuck" up on one by holding a set of antlers over his head. Saw a picture in TB a few years back where a guy...

RE: Accessory Limb Possibility

I'm headed the same direction, only I'm gonna start this year. You must have a Hatfield if it's a takedown, but even if you can get more limbs for it, it'll probably cost as much as a good used bow....

RE: Ben Pearson Deerslayer? Suck or OK?

Welcome to the wonderful world of traditional archery. The fact that you started out on the other side and have interest in one stringers makes you a perfect candidate for the disease. Beware! There...

RE: Crossbows are not archery!

I hunt predominantly on public land in Oklahoma. We have three seasons; archery, primitive, and gun. We can hunt with archery gear in all three, muzzleloaders in primitive and gun, and some areas are...

RE: Wing authorities

Red Wing Hunter's were made in 52" and 58" lengths. The Hawk looks very similar to the Red Wing, the Falcon is longer. Longer draw lengths usually prefer longer bows. I think longer limbs are better...

RE: .243or.260or.280

I bought my boy a 7x57 Mauser about that age. Ballistics are similar to '06 and recoil is super light. He loved it and killed many deer with it,(he's now 21). If you reload you might give it a good...

RE: Ever heard of Wing Archery bows?

I know where a Red Wing Hunter (long version) is for sale for about $125, looks like new. Three times what it sold for new. When I bought my Pres. II from a pawn shop for $25 the guy said "recurves...

RE: Coloring Feathers?

Think that's what you buy at the archery shop, tame tutkey-dyed. Try food coloring.

RE: Wanting to get started in traditional archery.....

Think I'd start with aluminum arrows. Matched to your bow, their consistency will help you with yours. Welcome and hope you enjoy it.

RE: Ever heard of Wing Archery bows?

AMF then took them over from Head Ski. They were better shooters than Bear and about the same price. In about'70 my Head Ski Red Wing Hunter cost $36. The similar Kodiak Magnum was $42. Bob Lee was...

I'm 45. Started shooting about 11 in boy scouts. Started bow hunting
at 12 with a borrowed Kodiak Magnum. At 13 bought a Red Wing Hunter with 36 hard earned dollars. Still have it. I listened to...
