OK....Here's the deal. I am looking to book a caribou hunt for late september 2004. I am wondering if anyone out there has any hint's, tips on equipment etc. I will be using a chek-mate falcon 55#'s at 28". I am wondering if anyone has any comments on arrow weight (wood, carbon, or aluminum) and broadheads. Also do you think the 55# draw would be sufficient? I am really pumped up about this so any of you out there who has gone on a hunt post some pics or your story. I need something to keep the old fire going until then. Thanks !!!!!!!!

Might try perfecting your caribou impersonating. Saw a show the other day where a guy "snuck" up on one by holding a set of antlers over his head. Saw a picture in TB a few years back where a guy just held his longbow over his head to get close enough for a shot. Gotta be the dumbest animals in the world. Hope they taste good.

Man ya watch a video, read an article and they gotta be the dumbest animals on the planet...ya right LOL!
Jesse, email me. I'll help ya out the best I can.
As for arrow weight you'll be fine with your whitetail setup. Caribou on average are not a ton bigger then a good sized whitetail. 200-325 for a big bull. 55lbs is more then plenty!
WHen the bulls are in rut, the white bag, bow, whatever on the head will sometimes work. Sometimes not! More often then not.
Dont ever try and out walk them. They'll walk you to the ground!
Good optics are a must!
Plan on wind, rain, snow, or all 3 at the same time! Think its wierd, wait till you're there.
Caribou have a buffer zone. Rifle hunting them is "easy" compared to hunting with archery equip. They'll run off 60-80 yards, stop, turn broadside and stare at ya for a second or two.
The best thing to find is natural movement areas. Places where groups are going through on a regular basis. Then find a spot to ambush.
What kind of hunt are you doing, where is it at? Hunting in canada where you step out the plane door and start shooting is a pretty crappy representative of what caribou hunting is like (black widows extreme bowhunting video)
Gear will be dependent on what kind of hunt you are doing and guided/outfitted or unguided.
Here is something I did up last nov just to see how I write. Its a shame no one there went back through and fixed my mistakes, oh well, never said english was my first language! Take note of the background....(rolling wide open golf course). <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
