Haven't mounted a scope in about 5 years, just want to make sure I remember how to properly mount one. Clean area to mount base, blue loctite base to rifle, set scope in rings, make sure cross-hairs are verticle/horizontal & proper eye relief is achieved (.338 Win. Mag.), then blue loctite rings together. How tight should I make the base & ring screws? What's the best way to achieve proper eye relief (don't want to get smashed in the eye w/ a .338 Win. Mag.) & to ensure the recticle is horizontal/vertical? Did I forget anything?

I put the scope in the rings without tightening the screws, then shoulder the rifle with my eyes closed. When I open my eyes and have the proper eye relief, I know the scope is the right distance from my eye. To level, I put the rifle straight in a vice, then sight a horizontal plane in the distance and line the horizontal reticle with it. Not real scientific, but it works for me.

I don't think you can mount a scope correctly without a torque driver but thats just me. Regardless of what torque value you use...consistency is the key. Loctite is fine but good mounts and good technique are my first choice.

I also use Alignment Bars & Lapping Compound, but Torque Screws is the most important in my opinion!!
