Tough powder question....

I have got all the stuff I need to reload except powder. I dont really wanna buy a bunch of different kinds. Starting out I am gonna be reloaidng for my 270 and 7mm08. 130's in the 270 and 120's in the 708. I also have a 243, 06 and a 7mm Rmag I plan on reloading some for later on. Is there one powder that will be good for both of those and possibly one or all of the others? I know Im gonna have to buy many different kinds eventually but dont wanna buy 10 different kinds now. I was kinda leaning towards RE-22 as Sierra Manual seems to like it for the 7-08. Thanks in advance.

I have had good results with WW760 in .250 Savage, .243 Win, 6MM Rem., 6.5X55 Swedish, .270 Win., 7X57 Mauser, 30-06 Springfield, and 8X57 Mauser.

I had a small amount of H760 gave to me..done pretty good in the 130 NP's out of the 270 groupwise....but have to start from scratch now thats its gone. Thanks for the suggestion. That sounds like a good all around choice if you had good results with that many calibers.

RE: Tough powder question....

a good general rule of thumb is.....most of the 30-06 cased guns (25-06, 270, 280, 30-06) all can get managable groups with IMR 4350 and IMR 4831. More often than not you will find a charge with one of these two powders that will give you decent hunting loads. It may not be your best or fastest powder but will be decent.

oh and both of those will work for the 7mm rem mag too!!

H4895 will do all the calibers you listed, except i dont know about the 7 mag for the 7 mag id go with H1000 or H4350. good luck atleast this way you would cover all your powder needs with 2 powders instead of a whole bunch of different kinds, I know the H4895 doesnt always have the highest velocity listed which alot choose powder by the highest velocity. I recommend H4895 because it seems to be one of the most accuracy friendly powders for alot calibers.

I'd second the IMR 4350. You can load it in about anything. However, if you do a little experimenting, more than likely, your optimum loads will be from different powder types. There is no 1 magic powder. I load with two other friends and it helps on the cost of having a variety of powders to experiment with.

Doe, your going to have at least buy two powders. Try IMR4350 or H4831sc for the 06 cases and Rem mag, and Varget or IMR4064 for the 308 cases.

If they were all long action, I say stick with the 4350 for them all. But short actions seem to do best with faster powder.

H4831 will work perfectly with a 270 and a 7 rem mag as well as the 243.

RE: Tough powder question....

Thanks guys. It wont bother me at all to only buy 2...I just wasnt wanting to have to buy 5 or 6. I kinda figured one powder for everything may have been a stretch. Velocity isnt the most important thing to me as 98% of my shots are within 100 yards..most being within 50. Im glad I asked this because the 2 manuals I seen both seemd pretty high on that Re-22.

BC is there any difference between H4831 and H4381sc except for metering?
