Does anyone have a 6.5-06 and what do you think of it? Do you use 30-06 Brass or 270 to get there? What is the performance compaired to a compairable 270? How about recoil as compaired to a 270?
Thanks

I dont have one yet.....I do have a 1917 Eddystone that is on it's way to being one. I was going to use 30-06 brass when reloading. As far as your other questions the performance should be similar to a 270 with similar handloads and recoil similar also. Good luck with yours if you get one/have one, let us know what ya do with it!!

I would use 25-06 brass
I have found that going up 1 cal is easyer than down.
Less change of crushing a case.
Just make sure you lube the inside of the neck ( I use dillon spray lube) and your expander will do the rest

Personally, over the years i've had better luck going "down" one cal. than going "up" one cal.. Both work, but going up many times your necks will end up thicker on one side than the other. I'd rather fireform when going up, that is if the case is going up very much. If your looseing cases going "down" only one cal.. then you better find your self a new lube!!
I use Imperial sideing die wax for all case forming, and so far i haven't found anything better. I have sized, formed, and reformed more than a hundred thousand cases useing it. But i have to admit i haven't tried any of the new lubes that have come out in the last few years.

Because of the smaller bullet diameter and the same pressure in the case your maximum velocity will be less than that of the .270 Winchester. The 06 case is probably over bore capacity for the 6.5 mm. The smaller cases of the 6.5x55 and 6.5x57 don't appreciably improve on the ballistics available from the .260 Remington. Nor does the old .256 Newton which is a shortened 06 case. You really have to burn a prodigious amount of powder to get a noticable improvement over the standard 6.5s. The .264 Winchester is the best example. It doesn't get you more than 400 fps improvement in velocity despite burning nearly 50% more powder. That translates into roughly 50 yards out at the end of the trajectory string.
