You've got to be kidding us. "One of the best shots you ever saw", "Pretty much an expert", "a walking ballistics encyclopedia"! HighDesertWolf, you are well on your way to becoming a legend in your own mind.

Oh, I called your uncle. He said he let you win because he knew you'd cry.

highpower,

Yeah i should think about takin a valium sometimes I get carried away, But if you would have read my post thoroughly.

Highdesertwolf- One thing I will give you is that the 300 RUM does have considerably more energy then a .308
I do understand your point that the 300 RUM has more energy then a 308, The point i was simply trying to make is you stated.

highpower- Take a ballistics course. My 300 will shoot dang near flat out to 300 yards, That's something a .308 shooter can't say
On what grounds can you say that?

Read my trajectory report I posted.

The only way I can justify your statements is compare a 300 rum loaded with a 150 grain pill
next to a 308 with a 180 grain pill. then yes the 300 RUM is extremely flatter shooting then a 308. My only point is comparing a 300 RUM loaded with a 200 grain nosler partition to a 308 loaded with a 180 grain nosler partition. Yes the 300 RUM shoots flatter just not by much.

When you made your statement you made it sound like your 300 RUM shoots like a laser to 300 yards. But it doesnt, Both the 308 and 300 RUM zeroed at 200 meters the ballsitic curves are within 2 inches eachother to 300 yards. Dont take my word on that trajectory report go look for yourself, Look at sevaral trajectory reports they all show roughly the same data I showed you.

If you can ask alot of people on this forum, they will say not to get me started on ballistics because I will go on and on about ballistics. I am a walking ballistics encyclopedia. Just wanted to warn you OK

Just how much of your data have you obtained by actually firing the various loads and how much is based on calculations, tables or other peoples data.?How long is your local range and just how many rounds do you fire each year establishing your ballistic data? There are many "armchair ballistics experts" but few that actually see the results for themselves and are able to put them to use in the field. Many of them coincidently are very young and have not shot a great many rounds in their lifetime.

HighDesertWolf you forgot to say over the cloud, around the mountain, ricochoet off the the tree stump and nothing but elk. How do you fit into any hats,[:-] your head is way too big?[:'(] Why don't you let off some of your hot air, and fight for your home state of Arizona in its battle with USO. I normally don't get fired up,[:@] but a A$$ like youself can do make me do it. I am a bowhunter and have done so for the last 10 years. Who cares you shot a elk at 300 yards with your .308. I know a lot of people in Idaho who do that every year. When I was a teenager I shot a bull elk at 700 yards with a .300 WBY, but does that make me superior to every one else I think not! I would be much more inpressed if you said you shot the elk under 10 or so yards. I love to get CLOSE. but with that said I am planning on rifle hunting again this year. And I too have bought a .300 RUM. Now do I need its power to kill a elk, well my last 5 bow killed elk arn't any less dead than if I been using a rifle. So you might ask why do I or anyone else buy or shoot a .300 RUM? Well the answer is simple, because I wanted to. And the last time I checked Idaho is still in the good ol USA. And in the USA people can choose and have the right to make there own decisions, even when morons who claim to be experets try to tell us otherwise!

If you would have read my post thoroughly you would have read that I obtained that particular information from a friend back in missouri which owns a private gun club with a range that is marked from 25 meters to 1000 meters. Ballistic data which I have put together on my own is rather extensive with the calibers .270 win and 30-06 springfield and I am begining to start some new data since I started handloading .308 win. I fire on the average of about 12,000 rounds of rifle calibers a year and about 15,000 rounds of pistol ammo a year, I also shoot trap and skeet and shoot on the average of 8,000 shells a year not including what I shoot when hunting waterfowl, that would add about another 300 shells. My local range goes out to 200 yards but I also use a private range which is marked out to 1,000 yards. I mentioned in a prior post that I am 24 years old I wouldn't say that to be very young but young. But I can say I have had more time behind a rifle then alot of older shooters and have quite a bit of experience in handloading for someone my age. My father taught me to shoot a very young age I was 6 when I shot a rifle for the first time, It was just 22 but I think just about everyone started with a 22. By my 8th birthday I was shooting a 30-30 and a .243 and by my 11th birthday I was shooting a 30-06. I started handloading when I was 14. Between My father and my uncle and their circle of friends I was shooting with and learned alot from some top notch shooters. Perhaps my arrogance gets the better of me at times and makes me look like an A$$ but must have to do with my age.
