7 MM..Which Magnum?
I have always liked my 7 MM Rem.Mag..I get about 3350 f.p.s. with a 140 gr. Nosler balistic tip. What I have been wondering are the "new" Magnums That much better, faster, flatter?Ifalways said if had to change it would be a 7 stw.Now they have the ultra mags. Some of my buddies bought the ultras. They really did not impress me cause the boys could not shoot them ( factory ammo and probally the flinch factor mainly )I shot rings around them.I still think if I have to rework my rifle or get another one it will be a STW.Anyone care to comment.....Thanks swampdog

The 7MM STW and 7MM RUM are both faster and hense more powerful. However I seriously doubt they are more practical to use. The 7MM rem mag is already a very long range cartridge and the number of folks that can actually squeeze out the added range potential of the more powerful cartridges are extremely few in my personal opinion.
I had a 7MM STW and sold it because I couldn't tell it was anybetter than my .270 Win. for deer and pronghorn. For Elk, I use a .300 magnum or a .338 Mag.

I have two 7mmstw's and a 7mmultramag and have owned several 7mmremmags.For the average shooter the 7mmremmag is by far the best choice. The stw and ultramag only offer an advantage when the shot distance increases to 400 yards or more and then only if you have the shooting skills to accurately place bullets at those ranges. In other words if you have access to a range of 400 to 500yards and are willing to shoot at least several hundred rounds per year practising at longer distances.
