The Hodgson marketing masters have come out with a powder that is catered to 300RUM shooters that is between H870 and H1000 called Retumbo.
These guys shock me. Was a new powder really needed. Was there that much of a gap between the two powders? I guess they was trying to hop on the bandwagon to make sure they get the biggest peice of the Ultra Magnum pie since its the hot round going.
Don't get me wrong, I love my RUM, but you can't even find too many Sendero's for sell that ain't chambered in the RUM rounds. I want to get a 270Win in Sendero, but have to get one used cause the only non magnum they make the gun in now is the 25-06.

I don't know if it was needed for the ultramag, but the slow powder end of the spectrum is the only place I can see where there is room for more powders to fill a gap in burning rate. RL25 is about the best of the slower burning powders I've found. I never liked H870 because it's hard to light and it fouls so much, it's a very old powder and after I burned the first pound of it I never used any again. H1000 is too fast burning for optimum performance from rounds like the 7mm stw and .257 weatherby. I know a lot of folks like it for the stw but I never could get any decent velocity out of the 7mm stw with H1000. Mine liked RL25 a lot better.
In other words, I'm glad to hear they're coming out with another slow burning powder, there's not a large enough variety in that range.
