Default .270 elk round

Ive been elk hunting for several years now but this year I plan on loading my own rounds. Does anyone have a good recipe for a .270 elk round? I will probably be shooting between 50 and 250 yards. Someone suggested IMR4831 pushing a 150 grain partition but I was hoping to get a few more opinions. I plan on getting a cow and a bull tag so the size of the animal could vary tremendously. Thanks for any advice.

150 gr. Barnes XFB RL-22 Min. 55.0 grs. @ 2942 f/s Max. 59.5 grs. @ 3090 f/s. Don't forget to start at Min. Good luck.

IMHO-140gr failsafe, right at max of rl-22,or 4831sc, 3050fps 22" Rem 700=devistating inside 350yds. I think the Failsafe bullet is the most underrated Elk bullet around. This combo gives me the same sectional density of a .338 and scarey accuracy. Friend used it 3yrs ago with complete penetration on a bull elk. I've used it on a 240lb boar hog 135yds away-penetration through both shields.
But, I will not use failsafes on whitetails or small hogs-they act like a fmj=.277hole in and .277 hole out.

If you have been hunting for several years, what bullet do you prefer? Personally my rifle likes Hornady bullets. Won't shoot well with the Speer grand Slams that i tried.
140 gr boat tail grand slam IMR 4831 55.7 grains max

Thanks for the advice. My Savage 110 has liked about everything I have put through her. This year will be the first with my own loads though so that may change. One other question about reloading, will magnum primers get me any extra performance over large rifle primers in my .270?

Many years ago I used the .270 WIN. extensively in Alaska for ALL game, with the 150 grain Nosler Partition with 53.5 grains of IMR 4350. It was very effective, never had to shoot ANYTHING more than twice with this load. (20" barreled Mannlicher-Schoenauer, 1/9" twist, MV 2820 FPS).
