RE: Best load for Rem 280?
I have a M77 all-weather with a light 22" barrel,it prefers a Nosler/Combined Technologies 140 Ballistic Tip behind 59.0 Grs of Reloader 22 ignited by a CCI-250 primer in a nickle plated Winchester case. With this load this particular rifle shoots right at 3000fps into sub MOA 3 shot groups out to 400 yards and has a standard deviation of only 5.1 which does show it's constistency. As normal, work up with caution as this is a max load in some manuals.
I have had better velocities with IMR-4831 but the R-22 gives me good speed and shoots good enough.

For deer I load the 120 grain Sierra Pro Hunter in my NEF with the 26 inch barrel. I used IMR 4831. I loaded it to 2950 FPS. The deer go down like a bag of rocks. For Elk or Moose I load the 160 grain in one of the premium bullets Last time it was the Nosler Partition.

RE: Best load for Rem 280?
I have had my best accuracy and velocity with RL19 & IMR4831. I use the 140 gr. NBT for my deer load. In the Nosler reloader guide number four I use the max load of RL19 and get 3/8" 3 shot groups out of my rifle. With a max load of IMR4831 my rifle prints 3/4". I use Federal 210M primers in all of my loads and winchester nickel cases. I seat the bullets .015 off of the lands.
My rifle is a Rem. 700 action w/Douglas heavy sporter weight barrel finished at 25.5". I actually exceed the velocity in the Nosler guide by 60 fps with RL19 giving me an average velocity of 3212 fps. Of course, all rifles are different.
If this is your first 280 I believe you will love it.
I'm currently working up a Load with the 175 gr. Nosler Partition to take on an elk hunt in the fall. I'll post the results when I'm finished.

RE: Best load for Rem 280?
Thanks again fellows going to try your loads when I get the rifle back.Have had it 2 years now but just didn't put much time into because I have a lot of other calibers and several muzzleloaders I shoot.I just didn't get the consisty I wanted with it when I was shooting it so that is why it is at the gunsmiths, wanted to make sure the action was squared and it bedded.
The best group I got with it before @200 yds was with H4831,second was with R22,using a sst 139 gr bullet.
