Opinions on bullet for .270 on Deer?
I came to the reloding thread with this question because I figure you guys spend a lot more time on details. I am fortunate enough to have a very accurate Ruger M77 that spits out very nice groups of anything I' ve shot in it from 100 -150 gr., Handloads or Factory. Because of that luxury, I' ve been shooting Rem Corelokts 130 with good results on whitetails. I know that there are better bullets out there, but these have done the trick. I am wondering if you think I should change, and if so what would you reccomend? I am not set up for handloading anymore, so besides the actual bullet, any opinion on factory loads?

You can' t do to much better than the Remington you are shooting. There are many good bullets out there but the corloct it just as good for deer as any of them. Many who are considered experts do not like premium bullets for deer and in an Artical I just read from Jim Zumbo, he likes the remington for elk as well. I like the noslet Partition about the best and they are factory loaded in almost all calibers by Federal. I love the Barnes X bullet which you can also buy factory loaded but some guns do not shoot the X well. They are worth a try though.

If it aint broke dont fix it.
That being said. I like the 130-grain Winchester Supreme Ballistic silvertip for deer & antelope. The Ballistic silvertip bullet is a ballistic tip bullet that seems to hold together pretty well. Last year my wife shot an antelope with her 270 using this ammo. I recovered the bullet it still weighed 72-grains.

If you are obtaining good results on deer with the Remington Corelokts, continue to use them, although if you ever plane to hunt elk and larger, go with a bullet with more intregrity. Good luck.

I don' t personally own a 270 but i load for a couple of friends who do and they have had excellent results with the Hornady 130grn SST from the 270. If you are going after Elk i would definately go with a bullet no less than 150grns and some type of a-frame or partition.

Use a 130-grainer. I prefer the Nosler Partition. Just shot a 700-pound elk with a 7mm 175-grain Nosler partition. A bolt of lightning could not have downed the critter any faster!!
I think the new bonded-core Remington Corelokts would be excellent for ANY game in N. America.

Deer are light skinned and lightweight (mostly) animals and penetration is not a serious matter.
Bullet performance with just about all 130-150 grain hunting bullets (and yes even some target bullets) is universally good. Remington' s core lokt, Winchester' s power point, Hornady' s interlock (excellent bullets), Noslers partician...on and on it goes...all will do the job well.
I' m a fan of interlocks as you can tell, but in all honesty you' re already using a fine bullet.
If your corelokts are not leaving an exit hole, you might want to try Hornady' s or Nosler' s new bonded bullets or Nosler' s Partician.

Another top notch factory load is Winchers 150 grain Power Point for the 270. This is my first choice and a good place to get once fired brass for my reloads which for deer are loaded with 130 grain Hornady interloks. " But" I can' t knock the 130 Corelokts as I have seen elk taken with this factory load and they tasted just fine.
