"Old" Bullets
Came across several unopened boxes of 100 gr. and 85 gr. 243 cal. Sierra bullets, a few unopened boxes of Herter's brand 100 gr. 243 cal. bullets at a garage sale. Bought the lot. Lady's husband passed away 30+/- years ago. He reloaded. So they might be 30+ years old.
The Sierra bullets has is nothing more on the box for description other than grain weight and "Spitzer". These are flat based with an exposed lead point. The Herters have no info at all and are definitely flatter nosed. Also flat based.
Question is do any of you reloaders know if these are a "hunting" grade bullet suitable for medium game.

The lead exposed tipped bullets are well suited for medium game like white tail deer. I use several diffrent brands of that type and have taken several deer with them.
Modern description of the bullets you describe are labeled as PSP (Pointed Soft Points)

I agree with Major...while cleaning out some reloading supplies from my grandfathers stockpile a couple years ago we came across several boxes of Speer and Hornady bullets (just happened to be .243 as well) in various weights (some still had price tags on them.... $0.99...yes, 99 CENTS! for 100!!!)...the soft pointed bullets have and will perform just fine for small game and deer in my opinion.

When I started reloading, I inheritted all my stuff from my dad's neighbor. This was from the 1960s. I just used up a can of IMR4895 that still had the price tag on it. $3.25 for the pound can.

Yeah who wouldn't wish for $3.25/pound powder again! I got started with my grandfathers equipment...I have boxes of bullets with $.99 and $.79 per 100 box...also a can of IMR4895 as well that is at least as old as I am or older...hahaha
