Boy this cartridge really has me intrigued especially since Seattle Setters mentioned that a friend of his owns one and is satisfied with it. Seems like a lot of guys use it competitively I would like to have a lightweight version(6 1/2 lbs) built for long range mule deer. Who has one and likes it ?

from the data I' ve seen it' s just another fake....If you want a serious 6.5 look at the .260 Rem through the 6.5-06....look at the reloading manuals.....then decide!!!!

What exactly do you mean by fake? Seems to me like a lot of long distance competitors are using are having excellent results with them I am just concerned with the hunting aspect of it and that is why I am asking for feed back on it...ie will that slug over penetrate because it is so long and has such high sectional density. Although I feel the 260 remington is a fine cartridge I think this one is at another level...

I am going to reply just to bump this thread up the ladder.
I am looking at two rifles & I can' t decide between the two. (they are both Cooper rifles.)
I am looking at the 6.5 x 284 & the 6mm x 284.
I am leaning real hard towards the 6.5 x 284. But then again I like the 6mm x 284. I have been looking at two Cooper' s rifle for months. I can only afford one Cooper rifle. So what should I go with?

WK, it depends on what your using it for... both are outstanding medium species LR rifles...I think though the 6.5x284 will handle heavier game better than the 6mmx284. Possibly barrel wear will be less with the 6.5 also. Other than reading a lot on it i have zip experience with this round thats why I am posting. There must be a lot of demand for it since Hornady and Norma now manufacture brass for it.

I guy down the street was having one built by the same gunsmith that rebarreled one of my rifles. I will stop by and see how he likes it. I am sure he used it hunting last year. It looks like it would be a good cartridge.
