I just started reloading for a pump 7600 in 30-06. I full length resized with Hornaday dies and the rounds tend to chamber tight in the chamber. The cases I used had been fired in a bolt action rifle. They also where trimmed .010 shorter than max length. The rifle must have a short throat, I used the same OAL as a bolt action and when I tried to chamber the round, the bullet stuck in the barrel and had powder every where. I then made a dummey round and started seating it till around .010 off the lands. Can I just go get some new brass and start from fresh?

Sounds like your seating the bullet too far out. What bullet are you loading and what is your COL?

The bullet isn't hitting the lands, that was the reason for the dummy round to get the the bullet from not doing that. I was using 150gr. corlocks with OAL of 3.120. I just micd. a factory round at the base and it measured .465 and the used one's are .467 and .468. Zeak

I am adjusting the die down until it puts alittle preasure on the shell holder, so it can't be adjusted lower. It's a full length sizing die. I heard that I may have to use a small base die, is this a die with tighter tolerances than a standard die? The specs. in my reloading manuals say the base should be .470 for the 30-06. I think that I will just get some new brass and try that. Havn't got any factory rounds to fire,just measured one my buddies unfired factory rounds at the base and it was .465. Thats why I'm thinking that new brass would be the same as the factory round. Zeak

Like they say, every rifle is different. I load for my 7600 35 Whelen using standard RCBS full length dies.I start with new Rem. brass and haven't had any problems. Small base dies might help.

my buddy is a big time reloader and collector of 760/7600's...he honestly has a pile of them....

he says around half of his need a small base die...

i also play with the sizing die till my brass chambers nice and smooth without a ton of effort to get the action closed...

Thanks for the info bsteve, that was my same thought with the new brass. When fired it would mate my chamber in the 7600. Hate to have to buy another sizing die. Reloaded the old brass that I fired the other day, and these chambered with no problem. Zeak

I have 3 30-06's 1 is a 760. All 3 have just enough differnce in the shoulderaera to make the brass all but unswapable. The bases are fine in all 3 but 1 has a shoulder/body junction that is nearly .450 and another that is long from the base to the shoulder/body corner by .01. The full length dies that I have will bump the large and long shoulders but usually not enough to get no load fit in my 760 so each rifle gets its own brass. I use the head stamp method ,LC for the 03 ,TW for the Savage and Rem/Fed in the 760 for now.
