20 GA PHEASANT LOADS WANTED.
#1
I have just started reloading 20 guage shotgun for pheasant. I have these componants on hand. WSF powder, Remington and Winchester primers, Remington SP20 wads, and Remington STS and Unibody 2.75 cases. What I am looking for is a 1 ounce Pheasant load that has a speed around 1200 FPS. I have found one that takes 17gr of WSF, but is for a Winchester AA case. I got 100 Winchester cases and the darn load don' t fit won' t crimp. The load will fit a my Remington cases but i' m reluctant to try it. Any help or pet WSF 1 ounce recipes will be greatly appreciated. Bob

I hear ya loud and clear.....you want to use what you got!!...I don' t blame you at all. Now for the bad news...
I' ve been loading the 20 Ga for many years....it' s been quite a ride I must say.
A year ago I literally gave away all my double A cases and I now only load federal' s target shell with the eight pie crimp.
I load both target loads and hunting loads one ounce. All I do is to switch powder and I use Unique for the target load and IMR 800-X for the hunting loads. The IMR 800-X produces 1330' /sec and out of a 20 Ga, that' s dern good. I shoot #7 shot and it' s like majik....kills like the best 12 Ga loads I ever had.
Problem is that the 800-X don' t feed thru mec or Hornady bushings and must be metered in a powder measure along side and spoon fed tom the shotshell. The powder is too course and bridges in the powder bushings and becomes very eradic.
If you finally get tired of making what you have work well.....I can attest that this works very well for me.

You may also try just a little more column pressure. The problem here is sidewall collapse. Also try the web sites for the different powder, gun and ammo sites. Most of these have reload data available for download as well as some type of " help" column. Good Luck.
