40 S&W

I'mtiring to finda good load for my 40cal. I am going to use the Berry's 155gr. HBRN ( hollow base round nose) with the universal clay. Plus what would be a good c.o.l my pistol is a highpoint.

I only use copper coated bullets with semis myself. I have had decent groups with 8.2gr of HS-6 with 155gr bullets. But surprisingly, I had awesome results with 7.7gr of Unique wtih 155gr bullets.
Everybody is used to Unique being very dirty when used with low recoil 44mag and 357mag loads. But I found when loaded to high pressures with smaller capacity cartridges like 9mm, 40S&W, and 357sig, it shot dead clean. Only drawback to loading unique is bad metering when compared to HS-6.

I prefer Blue Dot for my semis. You COAL for a 40 SW is not something to fool with. I don't recall exactly what that length is but you will have feed and function problems if you deviate from it much.....not to mention potetnial other pressure problems. Any good loading manual will give you a max length for a semi in 40 SW...use that number.
