Default 300 win mag troubles

My friend has a 300 win mag in a smith and wesson 1500. With this particular rifle, full length resizing dies don't seem to work. Brass from other sources that we run through the full length resizing die do not chamber in this rifle, but fit fine in other rifles. Went to new bulk remington brass, chambered fine, loaded and shot it, neck sized it, shot it again, neck sized again,etc... after the third firing there are nicks and gouges on the belt and the cartridge headstamp is starting to be obliterated. Is this a headspace problem. The loads are all well below max with either 190 or 200 grain btsp's. Rifle groups ok also. At a loss to figure out what's up with the brass. Anyone have theories or thoughts on this??please??

Could be a minimum chamber or even a poorly cut chamber but I doubt it. I'm betting the chamber is undersized or right at min or there could be a problem with your dies.

Jed,
I am not familiar with Smith and Wesson rifles but if this is a pump or auto you may need "small base dies" to bring the cartridge base down to "factory" dimensions. If there is a recall be safe and find out about that FIRST!

Go to their website and send them an e-mail with the info. I've sent to other manufacturers and they always answer back in a day or two.
You could also phone and ask to speak to a technician and they are very helpful.
I looked on Smith & Wesson website but didn't see anything about a recall.
