Has anybody used Varget in 150gr 270 loads?

If so, how much powder did you use? I bought a can of this stuff because it is supposed to give pretty velocity in a number of rifles that I own. I have load data for 130 and 140gr bullets, but none for 150gr bullets.

Varget is a little on the fast side for heavy bullets in 270 Win. I'm sure you could load it, and there may be data out there. I'm thinking you're not gonna get great velocity from a 270 with Varget & heavy bullets.

I agree, one friend I help reload, uses 4064 with 150gr and it shoots well but very slow. I would use 4350. I use 54gr of IMR4350 and 130gr bullets to get 3K FPS. I have also used 4831sc for 140gr bullets. I bet it would be good powder.

Hodgdon recommends H-100 for peak speeds from the 150 grain bullet. However 4831 and 4350 would be good choices. Varget is not a good powder for the 150.

Ok, thanks for the info. I figured that it had something to do with the bullet just being too heavy. But they show data for the 7mm and others with heavy bullets and Varget. I typically have been using 4064 and 4831 with good accuracy, so I think that I will just stick with those. I am really just trying to find a powder that works well with all of the calibers that I have been reloading for just to keep things as simple as possible.
