RE: .22-250 Reloads
"I've never bow hunted". Obviously not since you are comparing apples and oranges. A firearm kills with hydrostatic shock and massive tissue damage. Something that a 22 caliber bullet doesn't generate enough of. An arrow kills by slicing through the vitals and causing massive hemmorage so your comparison is moot. I have seen too many deer lost to 22 caliber bullets. I have dressed deer that had schrapnel from 22 caliber bullets embedded in the shoulder. They are not effective enough to make consistant kills from a rifle barrel, much less a pistol.

I merely used bow hunting as an example since the word 'unethical' was brought up by you. A broadhead would do far less damage and cause the animal to suffer far worse since it lacks the shock power of
even a smaller rifle such as a 22-250. I shoot Barnes-X 55 grain and I feel that they do sufficient damage and have pictures to prove my opinion. And BTW, just because that was my first post, don't assume that the person you are replying to knows nothing about how rifles and bows kill or needs lessons about hydrostatic shock power.

RE: .22-250 Reloads
I don't usually hunt with a 22-250 as I usually shoot either a .257 or 300 Weatherby magnum. I was just making a point that it can be used(legally by the way) in Texas. I also agree with you guys that it isn't the best gun choice for deer hunting, however it is capable of getting the job done and is no more unethical than hunting with a bow. So no one needs to get "slapped" for using one in Texas. Now....back to the reloading talk.

Since we're way off topic anyway anybody else work out the kinetic energy for the 22-250? If only eh? I think we all feel similar about the effectiveness of the 22-250. And we all have our ethical opinions about whether we personally harvest whatever with it. But I still haven't found a premium bullet in a heavier grain like the ones you mentioned. Are there such available?

RE: .22-250 Reloads
Many years ago I used a 16 1/4" barreled .222 on deer in Texas....entirely legal....and with great success.....every shot was a one shot kill....55 grain soft points...
Point.....if it's legal and you're comfortable with it, use it!!
Here in Nebraska, the handgun needs to generate 400 FT-LBs at 50 yards to be legal
