Default rem 7mm mag and RL22 max load

I am currently loading up some 140 tsx for my rem 7 mm mag using fed 215 primers and RL 22 . I have worked up from 66 grains and am now at 69 1/2 and getting only 3181,with no presure signs. I would like to know where presure signs begin , knowing that rifles will vary , is any one getting close to 3400 , thanks for any help, John G

My Barnes Manual shows a Max load of 70.0 grains of RE-22 for a velocity of 3212. IMO you are asking for trouble trying to exceed the recommended Max. Barnes does say that the TXS may require a bit over max load for the regular X bullet but you are getting close for sure. If you need more velocity, I would look at the 7MM STW.

Ridge Runners has it right. I don't use RL22 but do use IMR7828 in my 7mm RM and like the performance I get. When I worked up my load for the 140 Ballistic Tip I ended up a bit over the max listed in at least one of the manuals I consulted. I worked up very carefully until I started seeing pressure signs then backed off a bit. I am averaging 3350fps with that load and get sub .5 moa groups if I do my part. I have gotten about 6 reloads out of the brass I'm using right now with no signs of over pressure. I have a 26" barrel so that helps add around 100fps over a buddies 24" rifle using a similar loading. I also use fireformed brass and neck size only so my case cappacity is maxed out for my gun. The slower powders do seem to work well in this caliber. You might even want to try RL25 in your gun.

Good luck and be careful.

I don't know much about the TSX, but I get 3350 FPS from my Ruger No. 1B, 26" barrel with both the Nosler Partition and Sierra 140-grain bullets using71.5 grains of OLD HODGDON SURPLUS H4831 in WW brass with Federal 210 primers with normal pressure indications. I understand that this old H4831 is slower than that sold today??

I was NOT ABLE to duplicate my old N205/Norma MRP load of a 175-grain Nosler Partition with MV of 3070 FPS using RE 22. But I was able to do this usingIMR 7828 with the 175-grainer.....

Your results sound very similar to mine for both those bullet weights. I use the same amount of 7828 for my 140 load as you do of H4831 and I get the same speed. I also get right at 3000fps using a 175 Rem CL and 7828, makes a great elk load.

It sure does! The last elk I shot with a 175-grain Nosler Partition from the 7mm Rem. Mag. hit the ground so fast he bounced! Of course, he was only about 40 yards away.....
