Hello everyone,
I just thought I would introduce myself as the new guy on this forum.
My interests cycle between fishing and shooting. Before moving to Alaska, I hunted whitetail, grouse, waterfowl, and pheasant in the midwest. I moved to Alaska in 2001, but haven't had much opportunity to do much hunting up here yet. I hope to remedy that situation soon.
I am happy to have found this site, and I look forward to getting back into hunting.

Thanks for the welcome.
There are all kinds of things to hunt in Alaska. Unfortunately, I haven't taken the time to do any hunting yet. I have been fishing like crazy, though. Does that count for something? Fall is a tough time for me to get away from work and chase big game animals. But, I hope to fix that this year. Many of my friends and my wife's co-workers are avid hunters, and they have offered to take me out hunting. I am hoping to get out after caribou and moose this fall.
I am a pretty novice hunter, but I reload and shoot quite a bit. I currently have a Dillon 550, 650, and a single stage RCBS press for metallic catridges. I also have a 12ga Mec 9000G and a pair of Mec Sizemasters (12 and 20ga). I have cast my own pistol bullets in the past, but I don't do it anymore. My casting labors couldn't keep up with my shooting appetite. Now I just cast halibut jigs and weights.
For rifle calibers I load .338-06, .30-06, and .223. For handgun I load 9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, 10mm, .45 ACP, .357 mag, .44 mag, .45 Colt, and .454 Casull.

Welcome aboard, Dan.... There are some very knowledgable people on here, and are willing to help those of us that need it.
Never got to hunt Alaska yet, but hope the day will come.
Keep posting, and enjoy yourself.

Welcome! I envy you, being in Alaska! It is by far the best, most unspoiled place left on earth. I spent three years at Ft. Wainwright (Fairbanks), and went hunting as much as the Army would let me!
I suggest the Valdez area, particularly Galena Bay, for black bear and even the Glacier Bear color phase shows up around there from time to time.
For Brownies, Hinchinbrook Island. Grizzlies, try the Middle Forks of the Gulkana River. Good place for caribou too, and also moose.
Good luck!

I'm jellous, Don't look like I'll ever make it to Alaska, but I sure would like to. I'm afraid if I ever came up there I wouldn't ever leave.Down here in Alabama I'll never hunt anything larger than whitetail, but I've killed so many of them that I now only hunt for meat. I'll shoot a good buck if one comes along but a fat doe eats very good, and I don't pass them up like I used to. But for now you get out and hunt something the rest of us can only dream about, and good luck!
