I would not say that buying ONE 25lb bag of shot for $16.75 is buying in bulk!

I bought all my components at a large gun show last fall. I saved about 30% on the shot, 10% on the wads, and 20% on the primers over the local BassPro store prices. It still cost me $3.08 a box. I do it becauseI enjoy reloading but as the weather gets warmer and the fish start bitting I'll look for shells on sale. 30 years ago when first started you could save money rolling your own but the price of components has gone through the roof.

ORIGINAL: fastfire
Average cost 25 rounds

Hulls - free
powder $18.00 per lb - 30gr = $1.94
shot -$24.00 per 25lb -1 1/8 oz $1.70
primers-$20.00 per 1000 = $.50
wads - $24.00 per 1000 = $.60
total $4.74
You might find better prices but this is the cost in my area for small amounts.
+ the cost of press & powder scales + your time.
Walmart same basic load $3.99 a box by the case
and I have found even cheaper deals.

If you buy in large quantities cost goes down.
But you have to be able to store it.
500 lb of shot takes up a lot of space.
large cans of powder you have to store properly & so on.

If you are a club or something similar check around.
A few of the Rod & Gun Clubs in the area went together & buy factory ammo at $2.50 to 3.00 per 25 rounds they
sell to us at a $.25 mark up.

This is my $ .02
Fastfire,

I am in your area....there are places that you can get components much cheaper than you listed.

Hulls - free at club - but I bought 1500 hulls off of eBay for $28 = $0.047
powder $15.00 per lb (IMR 700X is about $61 for 4 lbs) - 17 gr = $0.91
shot -$21 per 25lb - 1 oz = $1.31
primers-$24 per 1000 = $.60
wads - $12 per 1000 = $.30
total $3.12/box without buying hulls, $3.17/box with them.

It all depends on what you're shooting. I'm shooting 1 oz loads with 17 grains of powder (I don't know anyone that is loading 30 gr.) at 1200 fps for skeet, loading at around $3/box. This when the cheapest Wally World ammo just went up to $3.58/box.
