I have hunted some east of Slave lake (in forested areas)and there are good numbers of white-tails. West of Slave there is some farm country that is reported to have lots of deer. We have had some resonable winters the last few years and fair moisture this year. I have seen some pretty good bucks around home here in west central Alberta latley.

Get your hands on a copy of "BIG BUCK MAGIZINE" (see www.bigbuckmag.com) and you will see the kind of bucks you might get hooked up on. They are not behind every tree and you will see lots of does and small and medium bucks before you see monachs like these. But they are there and the best way to get a moonster buck is to put in as much time hunting as you can and don't close your tag on one that is not "big enuf" for you.

Have a good hunt

Robin

P.S. have a couple of deer calls in your pocket at all times. If you see a buck and can't get a shot for some reason, you can often get him back for a second chance with a call.

I was about 50 miles east of Slave lake on the weekend and there was a white-tail road kill so I chopped off his head and rough scored it at 147 and change B&C. With several weeks left to put on more head-bone, he would have been a dandy.

You guys up there make me completely jealous!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, we have really good deer here in MN, but when I think BIG, KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF WHITETAILS....I think Alberta, Saskatchewon(sp?). I would absolutely love to come up there and hunt, but just can't afford the trip. Anyone interested in swapping a hunt? I'll put you on MN turkeys in spring....you put me on whitetails. Not much of an even swap, but best I can do. lol I am serious though. Even if we can't swap hunts, I wouldn't mind putting a couple of you Canadian guys on turkeys.
