the big bulls [white collar] were still way up north ,they still had a good food supply and no blackflies. the small bulls keep they're velvet on longer for some reason.we also saw a lot of females ,and usualy we don't see them in the middle of sept.they have already gone by .i go caribou hunting every 2 years and this is the first year that we hunt with blackflies and warm weatherin the middle of sept..GLOBAL WARMING ??????????

IMPORTANT CHANGE CONCERNING THE DISSEMINATION OF MAPS
The Department would like to recall that the use of satellite telemetry was implemented first and foremost to allow scientists to monitor caribou migrations and to enable them to study the various aspects of caribou biology in order to ensure the conservation of this species.
Over the last year, the Department noted that the dissemination of data on the locations of caribou fitted with transmitter collars was being used by the public to maximize hunting success.
That is why between now and when the survey of the caribou herds is carried out in the summer of 2010, and in accordance with the project’s initial objectives, the Department has decided to suspend the weekly dissemination of the caribou herd location map during the sport hunting periods, namely:
  • from August 1 to February 15 for the Rivière-aux-feuilles caribou herd,
  • and from August 1 to April 30 for the Rivière-George herd.
We regret any inconvenience that this change may cause you.

Perry, just to satisfy my own curiosity I called border customs at the Peace Bridge and they said that although they don't enforce the laws, if the person at the booth noticed someone running studded tires, they would be sent back across the border. Unless it was snowing when I left and I felt brave, I think I would just go up with 2 spares which I would change and put on the back when I got into Quebec. On the way back I might just take my chances.
