Hey Slokie I will be up at Donat's also from the 26 to the 29th. I guess I will see you there. Were eight guys in our group from Ontario and were likely going to bring some sleds. Bou man was saying that Mirage maintains some trails and that anyone can use them. Sounds like we might have to use those to get to the bou that have crossed the Trans Taiga Road. I hope the first guys like Perrywinkle get some bous and let us know where they are at. I keep telling myself that the map only represents a few collared caribou and the heard is much larger so we may still be able to get them North of the LA-1 dam.

Does anyone know if it is legal to hunt from the powerline right of way? I know in Ontario it is legal, but if the idiots don't stop shooting insulators on the powerlines we will not be allowed to hunt them very soon. Perrywinkle I looked at Google maps satellite images and I can't see where a road branches back into the non resident zone 22 B so I am not sure if you can enter via that route. The power line is visible and it begins in the resident zone 22 A as you head North from the trans taiga road by snowmobile. Looks like the West boundary of the non resident zone follows the 73' meridian and when you are on the powerline to the west of it you should probably have a case for the rifle so you don't get checked and they think you are hunting. Once you get to the East of the 73' meridian you will be able to hunt. If you have a GPS and someone who knows how to use it would be handy. I know I will be bringing mine along. As the crow flies it is not very far via powerline from LG 4 to the LA-1 dam, but it is the terrain that will dictate how far you will be able to go. I am sure that Mirage already has the trails already marked and maintained for their guests and they will be easy to follow.

Hey slokie. I'll be getting there in the AM of the 26th. You guys will have a head start on us. I have only ever hunted the LA-1 road and East off the Trans Taiga road in 2007 and the bous were plentiful so we didn't need to explore. It will kind off be new country to me if we are using our sleds also. We'll be four truck from Ontario with 8 guys. I called Mirage and their guests use snowmobile trails that leave from the lodge. They are not groomed trails, but they will likely be well used and easy to find by the time we get there. I asked Mirage folks and I was told that there are no permits required since they are not maintained snowmobile association trails. Just your driver's licence, registration and insurance.

Anyone hear anything about the results of the first week of the hunt? Are snowmobiles needed? Is there good ice on the lakes? Are the caribou being taken from the LA-1 road or by snowmobile? As much information as possible would be appreciated.
