I' m not sure if this is what I think it is ,, but I was STOPPED by an OPP , in the middle of a Simcoe County Forest on this past Saturday with turkey Hunters parked all around(I was driving out). He made it quit clear with the eye movement that he was looking for out of cased guns in the truck! He made up the excuse that they where looking for someone. I would not of like to know what he would have done if I did not have my gun cased.Just maybe a heads up...BT

On a fishing a trip for sure, it would give him just cause to toss your truck for anything that didn' t meet to the law. I wonder if there is any way to find out if he' s lying, next time get his badge number so that if you find the same one checking you out over and over you can try and charge him with" watch and beset" .

It' s the law that all guns must be encased, trigger locked and out of sight while in transport, even during legal shooting hours.(thanks to new Canadian laws)............I am as legal as the day is long, but if you want to play punk head games with me instead of being up front and honest, I will play games back.....

According to candian firearms laws:
Guns must only be out of site if the vehicle is left unattended. If you are in the vehicle they can be on your lap uncased and do not need to have a trigger lock.Trigger locks are not required for storage(for unrestricted firearms) as the gun can also be stored in a locked gun case or locked room instead.I do not own a trigger lock and am breaking no laws. There are provincial requirements that vary by province such as guns must be cased while in a provincial park in alberta.

Steve, welcome to urban Ont., you have to get in tight with landowners if you want to hunt anywhere near where you live (GOOD LUCK)other than that it' s crown land or purchase your own. I went with the latter. ...... As for the laws whenever I asked what was required, I was always told to go the extra 10 yds. so that there would be no problems what so ever.

One of the biggest problems in canada is that many people do not know the laws and are being led astray by rumours and even by the adds put out by the government and other sources. Many people actually believe that trigger locks are required for every firearm which is good for the people selling them but is not the law. Many people did not bother learning the laws because they mistakenly thought that the laws would be abolished or not be enforced. In all honesty it is to everyones advantage to learn the laws and I can' t feel sorry for someone being convicted of breaking the laws with the excuse that they didn' t know.I don' t agree with the laws but I did spend time learning them for my own protection.I would advise other canadians to do the same.
