According to candian firearms laws:
Guns must only be out of site if the vehicle is left unattended.If you are in the vehicle they can be on your lap uncased and do not need to have a trigger lock.Trigger locks are not required for storage(for unrestricted firearms) as the gun can also be stored in a locked gun case or locked room instead.I do not own a trigger lock and am breaking no laws.There are provincial requirements that vary by province such as guns must be cased while in a provincial park in alberta.
