RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Skeeter,
The majority of bucks here are still holding tight during daylight hours. Traditionally the majority of our does come into estrus after the 15th of November. From the 20th on into the first week fo Dec lies our most heated breeding activity. Right now scrapes are being worked a lot at night. The two big boys I am bowhunting are not move until almost right at dark, I have inched my way very close to both bedding areas. I need to put an arrow in one pretty soon before they take off on their long ranged rutting forays. Rifle season is open right now so that pressure has also added to their lack of movement. Deer densities are not really heavy here so the big breeder bucks cover some ground. Give this area another week and some cooler weather and critters will start moving much more during daylight hours. Good luck to you guys on your big bruisers up north I'll be hard after a couple good mature representatives of Northern Idaho. Hope to have a picture or two for you this month or by the end of Dec. RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Skeeter...if I can get through this work week I'm free as a bird for next week. Phoning for my hotel room tonight and heading up Tuesday 3:00 am. Hopefully the wether works for us this year. Early must be stupid excited with only a couple more sleeps till he hit's Deadmonton.
p.s. Burris is still under Sask. contract I hear.:D |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
JD well good luck to you guys. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and the bucks on the move. Shoot straight!!
Freezing rain this morning here and calling for another dose tonight. It is suppose to clear up tomorrow and turn cool for a day or so, then seasonal or even above before hitting the tank on the 18th. Though they can't predict a day in advance so not sure how you can expect a week or more to be accurate:eek:! Both QB's didn't play real well. As you know that is one thingBurris is known for sparkling or dismal, no inbetween with smilin' hank! Thats the CFL foir you, never know who will emerge the winner. Yeah I bet Early in is stoked.I hope he has a good one!! |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Yea guys, three more days and I'll be in Edmonton! I'm psyched for sure.:DI'm hoping since there should be some snow on the ground that I'll see more deer than last year with no snow. Also, it will be nice to see where they've been traveling.I'm also hoping that it's not too cold forgood activity.[:@]What do you guys think about this cold?

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Good luck JD and early!
It's snowed up her the last two days. The deer should really be moving now. I can't wait to go out this weekend and I don't even have a tag anymore!! On a side note, one of the F&W officers showed me a seized mulie that would gross near 200 this afternoon[:@] Such a waste of a beautiful animal. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Early - did you tag anythingl ast year when you visted Edmonton?
Saskabush - did he tell you why the big mulie was seized? I cant stand it when beaut animals goto waste like that. Little activity here in BC as of yet, seems like the mulies arent even rutting yet. Odd for this time of year. Was out scouting today and hammered a 'yote - needless to say the trapper whom I give my coyotes too may not be too happy with the hole the old .300 mag left in him. I call my .300 the anchor as it seems whenever I shoot an animal with it its like an anchor drops outta their backside when they hit the ground. To make you drool skeeter, a new #2 California bighorn ram was taken about an hour from where I live a few days ago: ![]() ![]() What a gorgeous animal - now thats mass! A hunting partner of mine lived across a lake from where he was taken - he used to glass them every morning/evening and says those big boys dont come outta the timber till this time of year. Apparently there are a couple still living in there that will bust the worlds record no problem. Biggest issue is accessibility, and the fact that its on a draw with odds of 1:700 - not overly likely. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Ag, That is a friggin' huge sheep! thanks for posting the pics, now i won't be able to sleep tonite:D;)
Yes, he did tell me why it was seized but I shouldn't go into details as i'm sure it's an open case. Suffice it to say it's a cryin' shame that deer will never be on somebody's wall.[:'(] |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Early in, it isn't really cold yet. Deer may hunger down when the front moves in but they get back to business as usual within a day or so. If it is -30 thats a bit different but -10 daytime is really golden IMHO. I wish we had some snow...booo! Though I hear the top portion(PA line and up)is blanketed as of last night and today.
Saskabush, I hate to hear stuff like that, really puts our sport in bad light and not to mention a waste. Guess the Co's will have new mount in there office. WOW. Sheep rock (no pun intended..lol)![]() Ag, no rutting...hum. If they aren'tlooking to be here onthursday and things don't look great I may say screw it and head for the fringe this weekend instead. Love nothing more than to accomplish both though;). |
