Hia good to hear from you bud and good luck connecting on the big boy.

Saskabush the 2nd either tag is a nice thing. You have a second tag..in saskatchewan no pressure now for yeah just enjoy. I am mulling over buying one, thinking about heading north the 17th for a few days to the cabin. It is less than an hour to where i took my 5x5 last year using my 2nd, great spot thatI have never seen a deer hunter yet. Though haven't deceided, if the weather is good around the cabin could be magical at that time. First yearI won't be around on the 15th in that neck of the woods...peed as thathas beenmy day.

I chucked the ladies(my 2 daughters), DVD player, snacks for the ladies, chew(dadda)and spotting scope in the truckthen headed for 29E to do some Mulie recon. Deer movements weren't greatas high winds butsaw few decent mulie groups and bucks. Imanage to get a boo at 4x4 mulie. I watched him and his small group of lady friends feed on the property which I have sole permission on. I figure he's a 180 class, not huge but worth considering or following up on(really other than the NT the best I have seen since season opened, thus far!!). So now it is hurry up and wait for the 9th. I have been asked and accepted taking one of my elk hunting partnersson with on 9th. SoI think i'll be leaving this deer alone that day;). The boy is in his 20's but do to work and well not much of a hunter, he needs some direction (ok lots). I plan to concentrate on the area where the NT was last seen that day and hopefully find a good buck for jr. We'll see how she goes, I'll keep you posted.

I am actually a little excited again. Wait, maybe it's because I know the following week I'll be hunting whitetail in the fringe...yep I think that is it!!!:D I hope we get some of that alberta snow soon, threatens but never amounts to jack. The weathermen are saying warming now for the first part of next week...oh well it'll be what it'll be.

Good luck all and be safe

ps. AG, thanks for the info good to know

Ive been invited to go hunt Taber Alberta for the 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Ive hunted whites in Sask, but never ersonally tagged any enormous (probably max around 130) I cant decide whether or not I should go, as im super busy with school and work at the moment. Do you guys know much about this area, its quality of whitetails, and how many will stillbe around on those dates?

thanks

Anyone been out lately?

ag, Taber isn't known for it's big deer BUT realistically anywhere in the province can produce a gagger. Taber is better known for it's waterfowl & pheasants, but hell if it's an invitation I wouldn't turn it down! Busy...it's hunting season, there's always time to do stuff in the offseason, my advice is go and check it out.
Weekend was goos for me, 4 roosters and 1 lost. Pics to come (as usual). How about everyone else???

Taber is where we were going to stay - the two spots we are apparently actually going to HUNT in are something called Manyberries and Southwest hills of Cypress Hills. Heard much about those spots and deer?

Nothing exciting to note about my season lately, been checkin out some new areas which isnt always the more productive way to spend to mulie rut ;D

Put my dad on a nice 7x4, but not enormous, probably 150. Didnt get a chance to shoot though.

Took a buddy out looking for his wt buck on saturday. We set up watching a field that usually has about 30 does and assorted bucks feeding in it at first light. The first 15 minutes were filled with whitetail bucks chasing each other all around us with at least one full on buck fight. Unfortunately, this all happened in the middle of the field and out of my partners shooting range. In the end, we counted seven different bucks but no shot opportunities. The rest of the day was spent either rattling or spot and stalking mulie does. After a tough miss on a doe around noon, my buddy managed to tag a nice little doe fawn mid afternoon. With last light approaching we headed for the morning field and watched countless does and small bucks make their way out for the evening with no sign of a shooter. all in all a good day out, even managed a couple grouse in the afternoon.

JD, good stuff on the roosters.

I threw the chicks in the truck again and headed to scout mulies saturday night. Deer movements were up as but a breath of wind. Saw the 4x4 180 typical and ladies again, though he had a smaller 4x4 following himas well. Same property, but found out theyare living in the NW corner of the PFRAthen sneaking out tohis alfalfa. I am not sure they'll be there after today(rifle opened this am), though no way to get to this corner but by foot so he maybe safe. If not I believethey'd move to the west into the pasture with the farmers cattle, lots of willow/pocket bush to hide in and have seen mulies hanging there in the past. Saw another high typical, was just past the ears but never got a good side view to see his forks or other details. Looked interesting though and he is living to the extreme west of this same landowners property. Was running solo, so he'll be cruising. Then I saw one of NT'sI have been chasing, bugger has moved south and west on heavily posted land near the river. I had no luck getting permission on the piece heand several does were on butbeside that run of property I'm GTG.Saw a number of deer both mulies/whitetails and learneda few things...mission accomplished. Now i just have to hope the winds blow right, the temperature stick drops and the deer behave come thursday...lol;)!
