2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!

Ag whats the story on that mule i posted up for ya?
Tom another thing thatis skimped onare the booties. I like to go with 2 different pairs depending on the temps and how i am hunting. If it is -5 or so and i am stand hunting i can get away with insulated rubber boots. If its -10 and i am stand hunting i go to my big baffin insulated rated for -100 and somethin. If i am doing alot of walking and moving i stick with my insulated rubbers cause your movement keeps ya toasty. Most like if you are going to be oufitted you will not be walking around to much but probably sittin in a blind or stand all day long. Check with your outfitter some of them spoil ya and have little propane heaters set up in em.I am with skeeter as for the prime time in november i see most of my bucks in that time span with the majority of the bigger ones towards that 20th and on. And as he mentioned many of these questions we or your outfitter can better answer once you book a hunt. All i can say is book early, my bud here is booked up for the next 2 years already so get your foot in the door.
Well let me say my time to go home and hunt has come. Finished my midterms today and i lit em up. Not sure how I all of a sudden got soambitiousbut my average is 97 no lie. I am so happy and proudi could go shoot a deer. So ya one class to go and i have a meeting tomorrow night involving mr.mathews, mr stand and hopefully big papi. Goin to finally get out there and gotta make up for lost time cause i only have 2 weeks of archery left then it turns to rifle. Don't hurt my feelings any but i would like to stick one for myself and the contest.Flung quite a few arrows during turkey day and things seem to still be in good order with the equipment, form and accuracy. I am startin to teach on monday and will not have my net hooked up at home but i will keep tabs with u boys from my school. Good luck over the weekend boys.

Hey all.
So I ended up taking a friend of mine out all day yesterday and today - he had a limid entry hunt for bull moose.
Well while we were hunting Muley bucks for him yesterday (different zone than his draw) we ran into a little mating sessions of some moose. Ill post the pics below, but basically what happened was a young moose (just too old to me legal here in BC) was doing his 'uhh-ah' sound which caught out attention. upon stalking up towards them we found there was a cow and calf, and he was chasing and attempting to mount the cow.
She wasnt too into it - he was only half her body size (apparenly size DOES matter
) Anyhow after determining that he wasnt legal, we watched and started calling them in to us. Theystarted jogging uphill to us, then suddenly from the thick timber behind them a much louder and aggressive 'uhhhhh-ahhhh' was let out - which instaltly turned them and they ran in its opposite direction.
My best guess is that it was a much mroe mature bull coming to start some trouble? Regardless we didnt get anything, but called another bull in this morning, but he never showed himself - only made some noise int he bush. A very cool thing to see that attempted courting though!
Here is the picture of the two adult moose:

Here is a picture of the young bull chasing the cow (mounting time!)

And here is a pic of a mulie doe i stalked upto while lookin for moose last night:

hope your all having a great weekend!

Good stuff ag!!!
I never went moose hunting, instead focusing on deer and home. Last night was a great evening, mild, no windand the deer where on the move hard.I passed several bucks, saw onegoodie but he deceided to loop back and never materialized for a shot. On the road(after dark)I saw the typical from before the seasonnear the area I was focusing on before last evening. The sly sucker has moved SWand living at this point in a small strip of buck brush which is nasty and right next to the grid road...urg![
] I plan to do a little recon/scouting(no sunday hunting here)early tomorrow am and see where he comes back to this strip from or if he is moving strictly under darkness.
This morning I went for whitetails, mainly scouting but with the Muzzleloader
! Saw lots of deer including a couple of decent bucks but nothing to bust a cap over.OOPS Lied...did roll a coyote, powder and bullet were getting a little old being just over a week since the last trigger pull...LOL. Got home just in time for the crew to be getting mobile, made a nice breaky, tackled the honey do list and had a feed of deer straps from last weeks mulie doe....umm good! All in all, good weekend.

Well update me tomorrow on your scouting. Any unique characteristics/size about this whitetail you saw, or just a typical beautiful Albertan buck
And what about that bigger mulie that slipped off - how big was he!?
G'luck!

AG WTF....I'm in Saskatchewan!!
The one on the grid road was a mulie as well. I believe him to be the typical from my scouting missions prior to season - 190's(the best typical i saw in scoutingor have seen). Will do,I am heading out well before sunrise to hopefully confirm it is him and what he is doing.
The other one was also a 4 typical that I could tell, not super high but very heavy chocolate horns w nice width 28-30, the distance was a bit of factor in seeing all the details but my impression was shooter(not sure he'd score as well as the night buck but I love them dark/heavy horns!!).
Based on my scouting I have come to the realization that this zone isn't what it use to be, so I am hoping for 180/junk or character, being realistic while holding out hope I may be suprised.
As far as whitetails from this am, biggest was a young(3 1/2 is my guess) 5x6 - very close to 150 was my guess. Also saw a mature 4x4 that would probably hit mid 140's, very tall tines, tight spread-just outside the ears)and heavyboth in horns and on the hoof. The rest were young ins and women/childern.
Update from sunday am recon: notta didn't see the mulie from the other night, in fact saw very few deer in the area PERIOD. Either he went south behind the brush and creek, moving under complete darkness or freak sighting?? Calling for some moisture today and turning to snow so I may head back tomorrow for the first hour or so before work in hopes I may get some clues or a glimpse.
