Default NEW GUY SIGHTING IN A SCOPE

HELLO EVERYONE!I AM A NEW GUY SIGHTING IN A SCOPE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. I HAVE A NIKON SLUGHUNTER SCOPE ON A REMINGTON 870. I HAVE NEVER SIGHTED IN A SCOPE BEFORE OR EVEN HAD A SCOPE BEFORE! DOES IT MATTER WHAT MAGNIFICATION I HAVE THE SCOPE IN WHEN I SIGHT IT IN AND WILL THE COMPENSATION OR HOLD OFF BE THE SAME WITH ANY MAGNIFICATION. IN OTHER WORDS, WILL I USE THE SAME CROSSHAIRS OR DOTS FOR ANY MAGNIFICATION OR POWER? ANY HELP WILLBE APPRECIATED! THANK YOU ALL FOR HELPING THE NEW GUY WITH HIS NEW TOYS!!!!!!

THANKS,

RICH

A quality scope should have the same impact point at all magnifications.

Suggest you sight it in at ythe "power' you expect to most often use. As a test, you can recheck afterwards at the extremes. For example, for a 2.5-8 variable, you decide to sight in at4X. I'd check it at 2.5 and 8 to confirm that the POI (point of impact) does not change. On quality scopes it will notvary appreciably if at all.

Congrats on a decent setup. I would reccomend to sight in at whatever power you're most comfortable with, then recheck at the different magnafications after you get it sighted in.
