At one point Leupolds CS was probably the best. It has been really watered down lately as has their QC. My gunsmith friend used to recommend them exclusively but that is not the way it is now. I'll tell you a little story and you can believe it or not I could care less. My best friend bought a MOdel 52(Browning) that had been customized with a match grade barrel a few months ago. On it was a Leupold 6.5-20x40 VARI-X III gloss finish , the scope looks extremely good considering however old it is,it was made around the time they were introduced and not sure of that time frame. Basically the scope will not hold zero and was sent back to Leupold. Leupold promptly called him and told him that parts were not available for that particular scope. Their solution was 579+ dollars and the scope and he would geta current production scope. He was not agreeable to that and in a week he recieved a new scope box with the old scope in it. Needless to say they lost a lifelong Leupold customer. Sounds like they have the BEST customer service to me eh.

So much for their lifetime warranty.

Its so wild that peoples experience with Leupold is so vastly different from one another. So vast it makes you wonder. I have had nothing but top notch service. I have sent back scopes over a decade old and they always repaired it.

I have tested with serious optical equipment and find optics right up to par with much more expensive scopes. I dropped on in Nov from 23ft and it survived with flying colors and held zero out to 200 yards.

It seems you either are a fan or you hate them.

My buddy is holding the new box and is not happy about it...if you like PM me I'lll give you his name and you can contact Leupold and see if he didn't send it in 3 months ago and had that exact outcome. Bottom line is they didn't back their product . No skin off of his nose since he knew the scope was bad when he bought the rifle and has nothing invested in it.

No, not at all. Don't get me wrong. Its just wild how different our experiences are with the company. Your an honest man. Are you not also surprised how vast the experiences are?

Same with bowtech, mathews and other expensive hunting equipment mfg. I know some who has had complete bows replaced, and others that they snickered at. I can't figure it out.

I would be ticked off too if I was your friend.

Burris about the only company that really ticked me off. And others on here scream how good a company they are.

I have personally not had a problem with Leupold CS , others I know have. Burris is a nightmare. I have owned exactly six of them from signatures to fullfields and 3 have had to go back and when they went back only one came back right the first time. That is pretty sorry.

I bought a MK 4 for my .338 LM, and that is the reason that I have no interest in owning another. somewhere within say the first 10 shots, and a piece of the reticle came off. I called Leupold they told me that wasn't possible, and that it HAD to be dust. Funny thing was that piece of **DUST** was black, perfectly straight on 3 sides, and the same shape and size as the cross-hair posts on the top, bottom and sides......
I would wonder how that would happen as well, I was under the impression Leupold scopes had etched reticles, so they really can't break like that. They are not a wire, they are a reticle etched into a lens that is why they are supposed to be able to handle heavy recoil and spring air gun use.

Maybe I was miss informed or maybe just certain models are like that and the one you had wasn't.

My first question would be irregardless of what was wrong with, did they fix it?

Only Leupold scopes that have an etched reticle are the B&C reticled models. I would almost be willing to bet that the highend models have them as well. A lot of their reticles are made with a new process where the reticle is cut out of a extremely thin piece of metal by EDM . That would be the LR reticle.

Personally never had to deal with Leupold in way of returning a scope, know a few who have and heard nothing but good about the process. I have dealt with their CS and found them very good in most aspects. My only complaint stems from the introduction of the VXIII where 3 seperate Leupold Representives lied about the tube construction...some of you might remember the postings for which this occurred. I will not BS I lost a lot of respect for Leupold however I still gave them the benefit of the doubt based on my experience with their Vari XIII's and M6's...really wanting to buy the "new" VXIII. Well like others have mentioned it just didn't stack up to the competition or asking price. Nothing wrong with their optics I just have found others i like better.

As far as CS goes I have had dealings with some great ones and not so great ones. Onenot so great company is one that right now everybody is toting on here...that being Nikon. I was almost a year without my nikon monarch UCCscope as theyfailed tofix the problem, finally after the 3rd attempt they just sent me a new scope. To top it offthe CS manager I dealt with was extremely rude.HeyI might have been one of the few who slipped through the cracks in regards to nikon CS, howeverit happened to me and my reasons are as sound/valid as the person who glows about the same experience. Nikon might be the best piece of glass out their however b/c of this I just can't bring myself to give them anymore of my money based on such a poor experience. It based on my experience be it a vast contrast to the norm or not it was my experience and it holds credibility to me.
