Default Red Dot Holographic Sights for Hunting

I recently purchased a Marlin Model 1895M lever action in .450 Marlin caliber. Other reviews seem to unamiously suggest replacing the factory sights. Wild West guns, Williams, XLand several other companies manufacture hardware sights to accomplish this purpose. Does anyone have any experience with using a holographic/reflex sight on hunting rifles? The Model 1895M is only going to be effective up to amout 180-90 yards and I really don't want to disrupt the balance with a traditional tubular scope not to mention the limitation of field of view for moving close targets. has anyone ever considered or tried using one of these tactical sights like EOTech, Trijicon or others on close range hunting brush guns?

I've never used them on hunting rifles, but I have used ACOG sights with the 4x magnification. Expensive, but they are awesome. I imagine they'd do good for close range hunting.

Muskethead,

You might look at the jpoint, Docter, Burris etc. mini red dots. Some have mounts for the 1895.

Muskethead....I too am considering the holographic type scope for a recent 12 gauge slug gun purchase.....There appears to be a few contenders to check out and it doesn't seem that too many people have gone this route (based on the posts available) ....I've been looking at the bushnell line which are built by EOTech. Bushnell is in the process of introducing up dated models....The biggest issues deal with battery life and mounting heights. At lot of the current owners seem to be military in nature....Prices here in Canada range from $300 to $600 per...A lot of money compared to a regular scope set up....If the quick point of aim is what most say it is, it may be money well spent.Keep the post going...The more info the better. Stay away from the N type batteries , esp. if you are in colder climates.
