Meade has purchased Redfield, Weaver and Simmons and I understand they will market Redfield as their best scope. Meade in the past wasn't known as one of the best, but who knows about the company now. I think their factory is in the Philipines.

I have not handled one, but I have spoken toa redfield rep. He says they will have exceptional glass and multicoatings. They are supposed to have a 5x range, ie... 2x10 , 3x15 , 4x20 , 5x25 etc.... if I remember correctly. The prices will be in the same range as Leupolds ....etc... starting around 500.00. They are supposed to be a top quality line, but what they are supposed to be , and what they actually are may not be exactly the same. I am waiting to see one before I get my hopes up. But I do like the idea of the 5x factor of magnification if it is done correctly.

If done correctly is the key words. I seen that the blueprint shows they use cams, nothing can beattwin-cams for timing if properly set. I myself am interested in the 3-15x model. I wishI could look through one. There is only one dealer listed for my state.I may make a call to Redfield myself. Thank You.

I have two newer Redfield scopes. One is the 6-24x50 illuminator, and the other is a 6-18x40 tracker. They are on a 22-250 and a .223 respectively, and although these guns are not big recoilers, I have had nothing but good to say about them. The illuminator cost 225.00, and the tracker was 159.00, and neither one have changed zero (other than my own adjustments) for4 years. I have put nearly 2500 rounds through the 22-250 in that time, and nearly6500 through the .223. I think I'll rebarrel before I have a scope related problem.
Both scopes appear to be built in a manner more resembling higher quality brands, and the glass is very nice. I am a Leupold and Swarovski fan for my heavier calibers, so I can't say how they perform there.
In the old days, Redfield and Leupold were it. Redfield has been bought and sold a few times, but I think the current owners are interested in reviving the reputation.

As I recall, they were made in the phillipines. I bought them through Sportsman's Guide. I am not sure these scopes are still manufactured by Redfield, as SG is fond of close-out deals, and I made a mistake on the cost of the illuminator, it was more like 275, not 225.
I want to say this was about 4, maybe 5 years ago. The cross hairs in the illuminator are fine duplex (like leupold), and the tracker is heavier (similar to a tasco or a sightron I had).

Have several Redfield scopes. The oldest one is a 3x9 Tracker made in the USA. It is on a Remington 700 in .30-06. Thisgun and scope combinationare capable of .5 inch groups or better. All is well as long as the power is not changed. Change the power-zero changes.
My .223 varmint gun has a 4x16 Five Star AO. My Ruger .300 Win Mag has a 4x12 Five Star AO.They seem to be good scopes. i also have two newer 4x Widefields just lying around.Boughtmost of thesethese atclearance prices at Sportsman's Guide. The Widefields are not the same excellent quality asthe older made in the USA Widefield.

But I do not think those scopes are the newer scopes made by Meade.
I think they may have been older production scopes made under the Redfield name, and sportsmans guide got a bunch of them.
The details you guys have given, do not match the stuff their rep told me about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago.
