RE: Snow Shoe Suggestions for IBO
How about the IBO getting a hold of Lake Placid NY and having it there? They had great outdoor games, olympics, ironman plenty of events. A proven location.:D

RE: Snow Shoe Suggestions for IBO
I like the terrain at Snowshoe, and I happen to be tall, lanky and used to the rough conditions, It sounds like some other people would rather have the shoot in an nice smooth mowed open field. And the family atmosphere is very important because alot of people have to bring their families along for the trip.....Not that they are worried about little Billy or what the " little Lady" is doing but it does help that there are things for them to do.
By saying that a tall person has an advantage at snowshoe, I guess the kids would have an advantage at Disney Land! There is no way the IBO can please everyone, I was just as dissapointed in what happened on Saturday as anyone else, So was my husband. But its time to Get Over it already. All this complaining is not going to make them redo the 2003 World Championships. |
RE: Snow Shoe Suggestions for IBO
Something to be considered is starting the shooters with a Shotgun Start, half of the people start at say 8:00AM and the remainder of the shooters start at 1:30. Everyone is assigned a targert and they go to their target by what ever means available after an assembly briefing. At a given time or a signal such as an aerial bomb every one starts to shoot. Everyone will finish at the same time and in case of a delay everyone knows where they must go for a restart. This will work and I' ll give you a slight example to ponder. There were 20 courses at Snowshoe with 20 targets each which equals 400 targets. If you put 4 shooter to each target that will equal 1600 shooters and with a schedule in the morning and one in the afternoon you can accomadate 3200 shooters, that is more than the number of shooters participating this year. I have worked this out and I' m sure that it can be done. It has been done at many other shoots and This can be done at the World.
I' m sure that there will be the same negative comments from the same people but the numbers don' t lie and the logistics are very possible with out to many problems. It will give you much more flexibility in the event of bad weather. This suggestion is offered as a suggestion and I' m sure that it can be done. |
RE: Snow Shoe Suggestions for IBO
The courses would have to be set up very differently from the way the courses I shot were (L&M). It would be too much to ask shooters to walk clear to #10, then walk clear back up to #1. Then walk all the way to the end again. Then get back up to the top. Seems way too time consuming, as well as tiring. The weather and treacherous trails aside, as things were set up, I see no problems with it. I will agree, one thing the shotgun start does is put everyone on the courses at the same time, under the same conditions.

RE: Snow Shoe Suggestions for IBO
pdq50h,
If you were shooting #10 you would walk to the target which would be at the end of the course that you were shooting. Most or all of the courses come back to road and then start the next ten. If you were shooting #5 you would start at either #l or #10 and walk to the target. When you talk about walking to far, our group which were all over 60 years and one over 72 years walked from the checkin twenty minutes to the first target and then when we finished that 20 targets we were farther away from the starting point then when we started and we had no transportation to or from the course (K Course). The next day we walked past K course to get to H Course and shot all but 2 targets on Saturday before they cancelled. The people that set up these courses can set them so that this would be no problem and the walking is never going to be easy at Snowshoe. The time element would be much easier to enforce and the chance to meet more archers would be much greater. If the targets are set up in 20 target groups the people shooting #10 some cases would have the farthest to walk. If the targets were set up in 10 target groups, at the end of the shoot the archers could help by bringing their targets back to road for pick up for the auction. The NFAA AND the ASA as well as some of the state organizations use this system. As far as walking to far, I shot one Bowhunter defense course that started at the top of the hill and ended up down at the lake for only 10 targets. How far is that for 10 targets? |
