after what happen last year you think they would have something set in writing as to what would happen if a shoot was called do to weather. that way everyone would know what the rules are. instead they had one huge mess.
i not sure how everyone feels about this but i think ibo is going to lose alot of members i know they lost one.

it was a cluster ****, and ken stuck it to all of us. i will not rejoin the ibo as long as he is president. i will not shoot the ibo worlds until he is gone, and they have plans for bad weather conditions. bad weather could happen anywhere, but snowshoe is prone to fog. every year there is some fog in the am. if the shoot is going to be held at snowshoe they need to go down the mountain farther.

there is a whole lot of people complaning about Snowshoe this year. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DO BETTER? I personally would have liked to shoot on Saturday BUT, at the same time I don' t want to be responsible for HUNDREDS of peoples safety. IF YOU WOULD HAVE SHOT SATURDAY; YOU couldn' t see past 30 yards; people would have got lost on trails, lost hundreds of dollars in arrows and they would still complain! I know several people who WON, they are good shooters. DON' T TAKE THEIR WIN AWAY FROM THEM.

I guess if you guys had all the facts you would not be defending one decision.
We had two targets to go when the shoot was called and they sent us in the fog and the rain. If shooters safety was the only concern, why did they put the guys 60 years and older on a course that was hazardous walking for young people on good footing much less the mud and rain that we shot in. We walked the farthest distance and shot a course that was not safe in the rain for anyone? It sure seemed like a real waste to CANCEL without giving people a chance to shoot a complete score. We had two targets left when they called the shoot because of a lightning scare and then they put us on a skilift to the top. Where was the safety there. I left for home at 3PM AND there was no reason that people could not have completed there scores, at that time there had been no weather that was worse than what we shot 18 targets in.

fassfletch - So you think that it would have been ok for you to finish your last few targets to get a complete score . . . . What about the shooters that had later tee times?
The sensors detected the bad weather, I support the decision whether it came from Snowshoe or the IBO board.
A few years after the Bedford lightning incident, Fred, the father of the young man (Brian) that was struck by lightning told me what an improvement there was in Brian and how well he was doing. Fred was so happy he offered to show me some recent pictures of Brian - those images will forever be in my mind. If those were improvements I can' t even imagine what it was like right after it happened.
Thank you IBO & Snowshoe for putting the safety of the shooters first. I' m sure you knew there would be hel_ to pay for this decision . . . THANK YOU for being willing to take the heat.

I don' t know all the fact about who called what when, but I had a 12:40 shooting time Saturday and my room overlooked the starting point for C and D courses. I saw no groups heading out, I wasn' t really wathcing but " normally" you would see the groups head out. At 11:00 we went for a walk to see what was up and found out about the cancel. They had no choice on Saturday due to the later folks wouldn' t have had a chance to finish. At 11:00 they had a 3.5 hour delay going. Last groups scheduled for around 2:00, that moves them to 5:00 or later.
Personally I think one thing they should have considered is having everyone shoot Sunday, my family left Saturday and we would have left if that were the case, but it would have been more fair to the shooters. I would like to know if this was a possibility or not, there may very well have been reasons for not doing this.
I won' t be sending hate mail out or any such thing, at least until I get more of an explanation from Ken about what decisions were made by who and what the thoughts were.
I love it at snowshoe, its turned this into more of a family event than the others I have been to at Clymer. Everyone can stay right at the mountain, no driving needed. At Clymer, if you weren' t right on the site, you were 45+ minutes away.
Oh well, my kids had a blast with the pool, euro-bungie, mini-golf and the movies (a great addition this year).

I agree with Fasstfletch. They should have never sent us out. I shot in that mess for 2 1/2 hours and then was left at the bottom of the mountian waiting for a bus for 45 minutes. Then all of the sudden the ski lifts started. At that point the red alert was lifted. When we got to the top, they were setting up for the kids shoot. It doesn' t make sense to me.
Some of the courses are unsafe to walk. You should not have to repel down to your target to get your arrow.
Yes it is a fun site for familys, but it is also a competition. You don' t see Phil Mickelson or Tiger woods talking about how much fun their families are having at Augusta. We are here to compete aren' t we?

N23D,
I know that there is a lot being said about Red Alert and lightning, but I am not sure that is why the shoot was canceled. From my under standing if there is a threat of lightning with in a 30 mile radius the ski lifts are not able to operate. I never saw the lift shut down on Saturday. The way that the course I shot (L) was set up it was a safety hazard to begin with, so I don’t know that I would be praising IBO or Snowshoe until all the facts are out. If they canceled it because the course was too treacherous because of the wet/slick surface conditions then it was just poor planning. My biggest problem is that they could of done something to give more opportunities for the shooters at the top that would have had a chance to make up ground on Saturday to do so. They could have resumed shooting on Saturday and finished up on Sunday, they could of taken the top 10 to 20 scores for the shoot off or anything to make an effort to make this a legitimate Championship. I just think that it was unfair to a large majority if not all of the archer’s and neither the IBO or Snowshoe really seemed to give a **** or make any extra effort to make to situation better. I am extremely disappointed in the whole thing not to mention that it took them until 6:00-6:30 to post the results on Saturday and then the information was vague. I think they could of at least listed the course and score beside the names and done it in a timely manor so people could of departed the mountain at a decent hour.

There is no way that you can feel good about someone being hurt, whether by lightning or by a more preventable accident such as falling down hills that deer were slipping on. Lee Trevino got hit by lightning when he was playing golf on a National competition course. They did not stop the game completely and he was not alone. This was a repeat of Last year again but this time it involved all the shooters on the mountain. I expect you to agree with the decision that Ken made as I have never heard or seen you disagree with any thing that he or the IBO have said. The people that work on the mountain gave us some explanations of the policy that Snowshoe has regarding weather. These were not Officials but the people that work on the building and maintaining the mountain.
If the IBO is willing to take the risk of cancelling half of the shoot for most people then they should be willing to return half of the entry fee and Snowshoe should be refunding money for all unused housing.
SAFETY IS IMPORTANT BUT HITTING THE PANIC SWITCH IS ALSO NOT THE BEST ANSWER. I WAS THERE ON THE MOUNTAIN AND I SHOT 18 TARGETS BUT I WOULD HAVE GONE OUT UP TO 5PM TO FINISH A ROUND AND I AM SURE THAT MANY MORE PEOPLE WOULD HAVE ALSO. TWO OUT OF FOUR YEARS HAVE BEEN BUMMERS, ITS TIME TO MOVE ON.
