Need some insight on pin settings for a 5 pin sight. I' m considering setting them at 23,28,33,38,43. I will be shooting in hunter class and possibly moving into unlimited later in the year. My set-up should have me shooting between 280/290 fps. Also, thinking about 20,25,30,35,40, which do you think is best?

For hunter class I am thinking of only having 2 pins when my hogg-it gets here.
The reason being that the pin gap when I use 3 is so small the pins are just about touching.

I am thinking of just having a 23 and 33 yd pin

If you are shooting in Hunter Class, you have a 4 pin limitation as well as a 35 yard max. With four pins 20, 25, 30, 35 make sence. Many are shooting only 3 pins and adjusting to 23, 28, 33. I Know 1 person, shooting MBR, who has a pin set in 5 yard increments from 15 to 80 yards! I can' t hold the shot long enough to figure out which pin I want. [:-]The only other thing I would recomend is to be sure you know how you need to aim for that occaisional 3-5 yard shot.

You will have to remove you 5th pin while you shoot hunter, but when you move up I would shoot even yardages and split the pins on the odd. I have set them up both ways and it is just more natural for me to work with even numbers than odd. I can figure out what pin to use faster when set to even yardages

I shoot 3 pins for women' s open. I actually have 4, but the #4 is in case one breaks. (Yeah, right.) It is not set. The 3 are set for 20, 30 and 40. I' m thinking of 25, 35, and 45, though, because the IBO average distance for my class is further than what my local club shoots.

Hey guys and gal, thanks for the info. In reference to the 4 pin rule for hunter class, is this rule specific to Ibo. I checked the asa rules which govern all the local shoots in my area and it only states fixed pins, not giving a number for the amount of pins allowed. Does this sound right for asa? Sorry, I wasn' t more specific in my earlier post.[]
Ausie guy, I saw somewhere in another post that you had some experience with the extreme sniper sight. Could you provide some insight to its quality and performance.

I am kinda new to all this, so thanks for the info. I am hoping to shoot a couple 3D' s this year so I plan to take your advise on the pins. (hunter class)
I will also plan to shoot some field courses as well. Is the 4 pin rule there as well? What should I set my pins at there?
Side note, shot a field course last year for the first time. Had one pin set at 27 yds and the first target was 80! Like I said, new to the sport.

I dont have any experience with the sniper I have the extreme 100 with .019 pins.
I am changing sights tho I was going to go with the sniper but changed my mind (which is nothing unusual).
I have the Spot Hogg Hogg-it sight on order mainly for the 2nd and 3rd axis adjustments Plus you can do micro adjustments to either individual pins or gang pins.
It is not a cheap sight tho specially seeing my wife dont know I am getting it

If you are shooting HC 35 yards max, and 290 fps. I sincerely doubt you can use even 4 pins. They would be stacked right on top of one another and it would be a real pain to see the target, in my opinion.
