Now there is someone that knows what good is, down home in Va. we called them dry land fish, and they are just as much fun to hunt as Ginseng. I will be out looking for them soon.

I didn't get out to look yet. In fact this is my first year but I have been on another site that reports finds and someone found 2 small blacks in reading Pa, just north of me so I should get out soon. I wish there was someone around my area with some experience so I could figure out what to do. I'm worried I'll be out hunting just wasting my time. I don't even know any areas around lancaster to start looking.

Hey quicksilver that was me, When I was a kid down in southwest Va. Ginseng was the way I got my only money, at the time it sold for $16.00 a pound at that time that was a lot of money for a kid. It now sells for over $600.00 per pound, I wonder how many kids hunt it now?
Hunting it is like hunting buck your are always looking for the biggest root, or the 4 or 5 prong, I am sure you know what I am talking about.

It's so picked out around my area that I feel bad taking it anymore - I did buy some seeds online and started a couple dozen stalks just to watch. I guess you could say they're my "pet plants."

I have a few wild transplants planted in my woods too, just to see how it competes with the commercial stuff.

Man, there's no prettier sight than a hefty four pronger in the woods.
