Maryland Rut?
#21
I went out Sunday to set up a couple of scrape drippers and I jumped a 4 pointer. He was laying down with 3 doe. Hopefully things will pick up this week but temps are supposed to be around 50 degrees during the day. Is this November? [&:]

I wouldnt worry about the exact time the rut is at peak, I would just be out in the woods from now until thanksgiving. The activity is good now and only to get better so good luck to all and i want to see some pics of MD bucks.

well hunting day 7 of my 5 week vacation, and still no sign of the rut, I have made mock scrapes, did the drag rag thing on my way to the stand, grunted, rattled, and used the can, but still no sign. Weather has been crappy lately, either too windy, (gottem bedded down) or rainy, man if we could just get a string of days together with no wind and temps in the 50's by day and low 30's at nite, I think you'd have to beat em off with a stick!!! The only thing I saw activity on is a bottle of stuff I got at Wal mart the stuff called Whitetail Addiction, I cleared the leaves away, about 20 yards from my stand, and poured the bottle on it, well after 3 days of the leaves falling it was totally covered, I just left it alone. Well this morning when the sun came up, I looked at it and something had definatly been digging in it, most of the leaves were gone, and their was hoof/dig marks in it. Just thought Id mention it to you guys.

Hey Mossy,
Thanks for the info. Unfourtunately I can't take much time (if any) from work[:'(], so your reports really help me make the most of my limited time. I am going to start trying some attraction scents along with grunts/rattles to see if I can stir up any action. Hope to hear some success stories from you soon

Probably won't need to beat em off with a stick, they'll have the does for that

Ok fellas!!!! I think its here,....... finally!! Saw 17 deer tonite, alot of doe running around and finally saw a buck chasing one of them. he was grunting, and was honed in on one particular doe, I tried to grunt him off of her, (wasnt gonna shoot him, just wanted to see If i could) to no avail, then hit the can 4 times, and nothing. He definatly wanted what was in from of him more than the noise of one. Im just glad its here!!!!

Spent the whole day in the woods today (11th). I only saw two does in the morning and nothing else all day. Lets see, it's the second week in November, the weather is supposed to change tonight (rain) and it's a new moon. Any ideas why the deer are not moving in Southern Frederick County considering the factors mentioned above?

Steve, I was out yesterday as well until 11:00 AM. I didn't see ONE deer all morning except driving on the way there I saw a nice buck on Rt. 32 roaming around.
Anyway, I didn't go out in the evening. But during the morning I had everything right going. My timing was good, plenty of scent out, and a good location (Mount Airy, MD.)
Still, notta. I don't know what the heck is going on. I have two buddies who are in the trapping industry and are out and about all day. They haven't seen any big-boy chasing whatsoever. A friend of ours who has 90 acres adjacent to Seneca Creek State Park said action is minimal so far.
So I don't know if it is still yet to come or what. This is usually the best week of November. I can only hope it doesn't rain tomorrow and the big boys finally come out.
I have seen quite a bit of young bucks behaving like it's full rut, but no mature bucks.

After seeing an 8 point chasing a doe last week I figured the rut was on in Carroll County. I put out a scrape dripper at an established scrape and made 2 mock scrapes within 25 yards of my stand. Had a trail camera setup and it took pictures of a bunch of does working the scrape and a few small bucks. I sat in my stand all day yesterday. I had a scrappy spike with one antler and a 60 pound doe bed down 50 yards in front of me. Didn't see anything else until 4pm. Then a small 4 pointer came by and chased the spike around. A larger 4 pointer walked by but that was it for bucks. A bunch of nice doe were out of range. This is getting frustrating. I can't go out again until next week. [:@]
