Maryland Rut?
#13
been hunting Mon, Tues, and Wed this week, in Northern Carroll, East Fred. Counties, have seen 4 bucks, all 4 were walking along together, (2 pairs) no sniffing the ground, no scrapes, no nothing, all does I saw were traveling in herds, not acting nervous. The rut is definatly not in here, I dont look for any signs at least for 4 or 5 more days.

Went today to my property at chesapeake beach and when I turned into my driveway a small 4 point was standing in the road.He looked at my car then crossed the road and immediately put his nose to the ground and went on through the woods. This was at 2pm
I checked my digital trail cams and had a picture of what was a typical forkhorn last week and yesterday he was only sporting 1 antler so he must have thought he was a bit more grown up then he actually was.
Really lost alot of leaves in the last week so I made a couple mock scrapes and will get out in the morning, weather permitting. It was a bit windy today.

Went out today. It was hard to get outa bed at 3am hearing that wind howling outside but I figured what the heck, I'm a glutten for punishment. Anyway, I didn't see anything by 11am so I went to look at a spot I scouted last week. I'm just walking through the woods with the wind blowing at my back and there he is. A big, fat 8 pointer I've been chasing this season. I drop to one knee and take a better look at him. He's on a ridge to my left and facing the way I just came from. I'm thinking if he walks that way, I'll have a 25 yard shot at him. But wait, he's chasing a doe and she doesn't want to go that way. Women! [:@] He chases her up the ridge and right through someones back yard into the street. I can safely say the rut is on in Carroll county now.

Just hunted yesterday my leased property in Howard County, shows no sign of Rut yet. Did see some bucks but looked like pretty normal activity. I've only noticed boundary scrapes on the edge of the fields, nothing in the woods yet.

HI guys, It's been a while since I've posted. The first two weeks in Nov.seem to be the best. The first over the second beacause the bucks are trolling more.My friend shot a nice 8 wide and heavy on election day. Used drag rag with whitetail maniac 155 on it.We hunt G.P. state park in Hereford.Dropped the stand off Sat. morning and seen a nice buck nudge a doe across the road.In the evening I watched a 6 follow a doe off the ridge to another one. So I set up on the other in the laurel where they went and while I was locking the stand in place 3 doe and the 6 with a spike came running out in the laurel at 25yds. in front of me.They chased them around for a while and went into the pines. I've seen quite a few scrapes around.Hunting this whole week with dad.Get out their guys and GOOD LUCK!!

I think the pre rut is over and the rut started late last week. Not seeing much movement (maybe b/c of the heat) but also talked to one guy that had a pair mating under him on Thurs.
I think the bucks are laying down with the does and it will be a little slow until the post rut kicks in.
