MD Hunt Final Preperation
 

This post will be the one we use for the remaining preperations for the MD hunt to take place Friday November 5th at Monocacy NRMA. Here is the list of people I have that are going if your planning on attending and your name isnt on the list let me know. Also in order to find everyone a spot there are a couple things I need to know, first is who has a climbing stand, who has a GPS unit and who has radios. Right now we have around 10-12 people, this will take some planning and cordination to get everyone to their spots in the morning, but I think we will be able to work it out.

My father and I both have climbers and two ways, he also has a gps so if you have him drop me off you could give him both of our stand coordinates and we can take it from there. ( I use to have a garmin until my dog shredded it[:@]:D). Either way I can bring it on the next scout trip and enter them myself when I'm there so you'll have two less people to drop off and save some time. How does that sound?;)

I will have a set of radios by the time of the hunt, i also might have a gps by then to.

I have a climber and I have a radio. The GPS, I have, but won't be bringing. I found out last turkey season in GreenRidge that it doesn't work correctly. It points in the wrong direction!!!

I'm up for the next scout trip (I hope), would really like to see the place in the daylight before the hunt.

No GPS but have a climber and will be bringing it.

I'd perfer it with the number of people we will be haveing there if for no other reason but a safty factor (someone get hurt or lost).

This could be interesting.........I see some of the guys going on this trip to Monocacy are also participating in the Bowhunting contest here on huntingnet, man how much smack talk could we have if one of us lays down a monster 140-150 class buck, while he's hunting with some competitors, I can see it now....... Team Whackem and Stackem member shoots 150 class monster and puts his team over the top, while Elite eight (isnt enough) team member watches from 60 yards away!!!! Or better yet Team size Matters member helps drag out Whackem and Stackems 150 class monster!! OOOOh Im gonna love the sound of that!!! lol I cant wait.... I hope you guys dont mind a little smack talkin....its all in fun anyway....right?!?!?!

hey fellas
just wonderin, are you guys plannin on Nov 5th to sit in stand all day, or hunt in the morning, come out for lunch, and then hunt the evening? I can do both, I perfer to hunt all day, but for the sake of hangin out with the fellas, if ya'll want to meet for lunch and shoot the bull about the morning hunt, and then change locations for the evening, I'm game, for whatever the group wants to do.

oh and bearlk, if you get a 160 class that day, i will be more than happy to help you drag him out!!!! I just want a picture of him too!! (maybe I can sneek him in the contest as my kill too!!!! lol :D:D:D)

Can't make Sunday but maybe Saturday. BTW I just ordered my first GPS so I have the radios and a GPS that I proablly won't know how to use [&:].

I have hunted a fair amount at Monocacy. I have a GPS, RADIO, AND Climber and a real good idea of where to hunt it. The question I have is, with all of these people going, won't you all be setting on top of one another? I have seen monster bucks in the area but have never been able to get a shot at one. Good luck hunting it. Since I have not hunted this area in awhilr, is it a bow only area now?

yeah, well luckily I have purchased a new 10 man climber. We will all be able to hunt from the same tree actually. Its kinda like the olympic rowing, 9 guys climb while one sits on top with a bull horn yelling " Climb" "Climb". I have voted myself to be that guy!!!
seriously though, I have seen alot of the guys that post in this topic, and they all seem to be good people, Im sure nobody will complain about being close to somebody else, In fact I've hunted 50 yrds from another guy and it just made it that much easier, he saw deer coming toward me and radioed me way before I even saw them. Im sure we will all just enjoy the day, and enjoy getting to meet everybody!!!!

I have hunted close before to. It is OK as long as everyone is considerate of each other. If you have a topo you could kind of pre-plan areas to hunt. That away no one area is overlooked. It sounds like plenty of preparation is being taken so I am sure you will all have a good time.

Monocacy is listed at 1800 acres, if 10 people go thats 180 acres per man. I dont think we will be to close together, there is plenty of room to spread out. I can come up for some scouting this weekend, I can prob swing it on either Sat or Sun evening.

Does anyone have directions on how to get there exactly. I will be coming from Lancaster Pa so I will be using I-83 south into Maryland, but there are so many Monocacy's on mapquest I'm not sure which one it is.

If you come down 83 you have to get on 695 to rt70 which takes you right into Frederick, it may be quicker to take rt 30 into Gettysburg and then take rt 15 down. Here is the mapquest link directly to the hunting area, the parking lot is right where it says Furnace Ford in the middle of the map. If you have more questions send me a PM and I give you more details.

Just let me know what time you guys comeup with and I'll let you know if I can make it. It takes me a little while to get there so 10:00 would be better but it's no biggie if I miss it. I'll let you know what I'll be doing once I find out a time. I'd like to bring my gps so I can get some coordinates. I'll pm you mossy and let you know.

p.s. I don't see a problem with you meeting up with us slicendice. We'll just have to figure out the details. What do you think mossy?

well if we are doing sun at 9am I guess we could meet at Emmitsburg Mcdonalds at 8 o clock (its about a 50 min drive to Monocacy from there) in case you dont know how to get there its easy, take 30 W out of York, run it all the way down through Thomasville,Abbottstown,New Oxford, until you get to rte 15 in Gettysburg. Then take rte 15 s towards Emmitsburg, Frederick. When you get to the Emmitsburg exit turn off, and look for the McDonalds, you cant miss it ( I think you can see it from 15) bearlk I will pm you my cell phone in case you get lost. Any body else wanna ride with me, I got a 4 door F250 that can seat 5 or 6? Pm me if you wanna ride together.

If you post or PM the time and location you plan to meet, I will most likely meet you down there. I may not take part in the group hunt, but I would like to scout with the group, swap stories, whatever. I just started hunting a few years ago, so I'm sure there's a lot I can learn by getting out in the field with you guys.

I live about 10 miles away (sorry, didn't mean to rub it in) so I'm pretty flexible on time. Hope to see you there.
