WV Hunters about Sunday Hunting: House Bill 4142
West Virginia Bill Would Require Local Vote to Approve Sunday Hunting- (02/13)
West Virginia
A bill has been introduced in West Virginia that would virtually reverse last year’s measure to permit hunting on Sunday. The new bill will allow local governments to decide whether to permit Sunday hunting.
West Virginia House Bill 4142 would require a county voter referendum before sportsmen could hunt on Sunday. The bill, introduced by House Speaker Robert Kiss, reverses the vote taken by West Virginia legislators that permits Sunday hunting unless a county voted to oppose it.
Currently, 42 states, including West Virginia, permit Sunday hunting. West Virgina sportsmen should have the same opportunities to hunt as sportsmen in other states. Further, the bill sets a bad precedent by allowing local governments to get into the business of regulating wildlife management.
Take Action! West Virginia sportsmen should contact their delegates and tell them you oppose House Bill 4142. To find your delegate and leave a message for him or her, call (877) 565-3447. Sportsmen can also use the Legislative Action Center on the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance website, www.ussportsmen.org. The Legislative Action Center allows visitors to find their legislators and provides contact information for them.

What is it about this part of the good ol USA? Everywhere but around here (PA, Wva NJ) Sunday hunting is no problem. What'd we do to have a prevailing mentality that opposes it when everything else is wide open on Sunday?

BTB, I am certainly no politician, and am far from being PC. I just think where WV is concerned they are leaving it to a county/county issue....ie:local issues because of religious reasons. JMHO
I thought that this issue was already a done deal, then I got a state update. After that, fellow board member Mike Bell sent out his Second Amendment updates. Which btw are very much appreciated.
To be honest I used to be opposed to Sunday hunting. I am not opposed to it now. On private land, it should be a personal choice, with the landowners permission IMHO. Records for this year in WV showed that very few took part in Sunday hunting for whatever reason.
This state as well as others need to make illegal poaching more of a priority, and leave Sunday hunting to those of us ethical hunters, that can only get out in the field on Sundays.
JMO....and .02.

When Pa hunters were polled, more than half were opposed to it. Cant quite understand that. I dont get down to WVA as often as I used to but I ran into similar sentiment there. I guess if the hunters dont seem to want it that bad we may never see it here. I hope for yours and other WVA hunters sakes that it goes your way. Good Luck!<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
