very well said, that is exactly what I am talking about, hunters taking the enisative and helping to support the DEC in any way we can..not just placing the blame cuse thats the easy thing to do...
Listen ............... I've done what I can do. You can only do so much to be a participant and work with an agency. But when an agency handcuffs your intentions and not willing to work with you then what do you think the attitude towards said agency should be?? You think we should just continue to nod our heads yes sir that sounds delightful sir. Just agree with everything they are spewing?? Why? Because they are the governing agency over our deer herd and what they do and say has to be the right way?? UT UH you can all fall into the little slot they would like you to be. I for one will voice my displeasure when I think something is wrong. I apologize for being a man.
Like I've said, I've done my part. 2 seasons ago. I know of poachers in the area. They run a butcher shop about 1 mile from where I hunt. I can't tell you the disgusting amount of deer hanging in their shops. Christ you can see them and their buddies at night unloading the deer into the shop. They are known by every hunter in my area as poachers. You can see them cruising in their trucks at night. Parked on the side of the road and all. I've called and called and called and called and made complaints. I called the regional officer at his home. Gave him the address. Gave him license plate #'s. Gave him vehicle description. Gave him times and roads and days they will be there. Guess what happened in return?? Close your eyes and tell me what you see. NOTHING. So don't tell me I'm just sitting here pointing my finger and not getting involved because it's the easy thing to do.
Let's just examine this further. Did I mention these guys also have a farm and they applied for and received "nuisance" tags. These are the people the DEC wants to help out. These people are illegally trying to take every deer in the county and I along with others in the area are trying to stop it and they turn around and get rewarded by the DEC??? Tell me I don't have a legitimate gripe and shouldn't have a bad taste in my mouth about the DEC!!!

How do you help someone who is unwilling to accept your help??
my sentiments exactly

Maybe they should come up with a system that makes it impossible or very very hard to not report kills??..........instead they come up with a half assed system that has no safeguards in it for this problem.........the reason why they don't come up with that system is THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT IT...........their motto should be NYDEC.....close enough!!
what is this system - be proactive. don't just complain, try to help the situation. don't hide behind, "it's not my job" - that doesn't cut it.

Why do you suppose all those guys out there felt like they had to take matters into their own hands??........I guess the DEC wasn't good enough for all them either
actually DEC get QDM started in NY and have assisted landowners that wanted to pursue it

and they could institute a statewode QDM program if they felt that is what the public wanted, but trust me, the public doesn't (look at the antler restriction issue in PA and multiply that by 10 for QDM regs)

and before you say they don't care about what WE want, remember about 2 years ago when they have statewide meetings regarding the new regs that have since been instituted?? did you attend any of those to give your input??

Bottom line, it's really easy to be an armchair quarterback.

This was your initial response to me. Translation====>"You don't know what you are talking about so shut up and leave it to the people with degrees on the wall"

This was said without knowing even one detail about my knowledge level, experience or background.

Just a reflex reaction to dismiss everyone as unqualified to offer an opinion.

Every hunter thinks he's an expert on deer and knows exactly what should be done about managing them. It's a really arrogant position to have, and is quite offensive to those who actually went to school and earned a degree in the wildlife field, many of whom are also hunters I might add. Apparently all that money we spent on our education was a waste, we could have just climbed into a deer stand for a few years and then we would know all the secrets of the natural world.

Imagine if I showed up where you work and started telling you how you didn't know what the hell you were doing and how I was so much smarter than you, and how I could do your job so much better... would that piss you off? I think it would, and it should.
But that's exactly what you are doing.

Another couple of beauties from you early on..........Geez, I can't imagine how anyone would get the impression that you have a problem with hunters having the balls to question the DEC and all their degrees.

like every other "nuisance" tag holder but I don't cause I'm not a lowlife poaching scum cause that's all they are
come on - you cannot honestly beleive a blanket statement like that??
like I have stated, I work with these "scum" and not once seen the permits being abused.
actually my uncle must be a scumbag, because he gets a few nuiscence permits from time to time (but don't let the fact that the deer ruined a 10 acre pumpkin field ($1000s of dollars)
your perception is basedon a small sample size, and therefore, IMO very scewed

peace

Or you may have selectively not read this one either.

Come on be honest here. I realize there are "some" farmers that really need them and are put to good use. I certainly don't wish anyones livliehood substantially hurt over some deer. But let's be realistic and stop dodging the fact that MOST of them are attained for the pure sake of people abusing them and attaining them so they can put on more deer drives and have a good ole slaughter house of a time. My number of 80% may be a little high, but I'll bet I'm not too far off!!

Why doesn't that cut it?? Millions of dollars go to the DEC and it's up to me to solve their problems?? What the hell is going on down there that we have to do their jobs for them??

If you do a poor job at work do all your co-workers just pick up the slack for you and not say anything??.......I doubt it. They will tell you or your boss to get your butt in gear and do your job right or hit the road.

You want a better way to keep people from not calling in??..........How about having to mail in all unused tags at the end of the year. Check the number of used tags vs the number of ones called in and you will see who didn't call in their kills. Inact penalties for not calling in kills like no doe permits next year and you will see the phones ring off the wall.

Was that so hard??

I don't even have a degree in Wildlife management either
