High fence operations are not outfitters. They are preserves. My post was strictly addressing fair chase outfitters.
Aside from the public land outfitters, is there really much of a diff?

Some outfitter on private land having thousands of exclusive acres, acre upon acre of foodplots, shooting huts, and a bazillion deer per square mile..

Id say the "canned hunts" might actually be a bit tougher. lol

Sorry BT but I don't believe those numbers. Not on public land. Not 120 deer in an archery season. And not 40 deer at one time.
Sorry don't believe it but this is the internet.

Can you name any outfitters in PA that fit that description? Even one?

Well Rich, you have a fair question. 120 in an entire archery season isnt that far fetched though. 40 in a day is better than I've seen in a while but I've seen 30+ on a few exceptional days a couple of seasons back on open private ground that might as well be public. (next to game lands, posted with signs saying public hunting welcome, and DMAPed)

Nope. There are so few in Pa i dont hear much about any of them. And I certainly have no desire to research them for my own use. Though Ive heard and read as well as seen on TV the conditions outfitters operate under, generally speaking. I also dont expect any private land outfitters in Pa to be any different. Hunter success = business success. Thats generally not gonna = tough hunting, at least on a comparative basis.

Opening day of rifle season I went out and sat without a gun because I already harvested a 4.5 year old buck on this public ground and I saw 4 legal bucks. After leaving mid morning I drove around to see over 40 vehicles parked so you cant say there isnt a lot of pressure. At home, in eastern pennsylvania, I often hunt state land and always see deer. I have seen a P&Y buck each year and always see a good number of does each outing. It is all about getting out there and finding a good spot.

One of my buddies is a new hunter and he hunted the area in central PA where I saw loads of deer and he didn't see any. same with other hunters hunting that area that I spoke with. the deer are there but they arent just going to walk out in front of every hunter. The public land i hunted in centre county is over populated with deer and a bunch need to be taken but yet i heard several people saying there were no deer there and they were lucky to see one or two. There are plenty of opportunies for guys to go out and harvest deer on public ground in PA and I am all for taking a few does every year and I wish other people would too.
So, are you saying the PGC DMP is a miserable failure in Centre Co.? How high was the browse line? If you saw 40 in front of your stand, the deer density must have been over 100 DPSM but the PGC says the habitat can't support more than 15 DPSM. With so many deer and such over browsed habitat, there must have been a lot of winterkill this winter,so you better find a new place to hunt next year.

Uhhh, large exclusive private acreage with food plots, large stands, etc. pretty much describes just about any outfitter you would go to in the U.S. to hunt deer. I know that pretty much describes the outfitter hunts in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, etc., and it is also true for western states in many instances. Even if the hunt is on public land out west, it might as well be private land considering how access to it may be limited. Lots of folks from "hot" deer hunting states in the Midwest like to do western hunts too sometimes. Would be interesting to hear about how many western outfitters are only able to keep their head above water because of this flood of PA hunters, especially since we know that about 900K tend to stick close home to hunt.

It's all about location boys. You can put anybody in the right place like say where Bill Jordon hunts and that person can tag a nice buck.On a smaller scale I know some not so good hunters who get buck almost every year in Chester county and places closer to Philly. Some happened into a great lease and others happened onto some prime family posted land.
I agree and I think it is funny that guys that see 30 or 40 deer/day don't consider themselves to be lucky to be hunting in an area with so many deer and just assume they are much better hunters then those of us that are lucky to see 10 or 20 deer a season because of the low deer densities where we hunt.

There are very few areas of the state where the dmp isnt a miserable failure.

Seems that huge majority of the state has pathetic unwarranted deer numbers and a tiny portion here and there has 100 dpsm, according to some anyway!

Maybe they'll whack those areas with a good hearty application of that "GONACON" contraception pgc is racing to get into action.... The gameless commissions new management "tool" in the "toolbox"....
