you say there are plenty of deer on public land in certain areas. Are there enough deer that hunters statewide can harvest 203K buck like we did in 2000 and 2001? are there enough deer that we can harvest 300K doe without reducing the herd even more?
I didnt take any does here because I did not get a doe tag for this WMU. I didn't really know I was going to be hunting here, and especially didn't know I would find an area with so many deer so I only got doe tags for the WMU at home. And I would be happy to tell you where it is and have you come out and shoot some does. Heck, I would put you in the best spot I got if anyone wants to take a doe there. Of course that might reduce the numbers too much and then I'll hear people complaining there aren't enough deer there so I'm not sure actually

Congrats on your find Jason. Sounds like you have found a public ground honey hole. I can only speak for the western part of the state as Rich suggested but from this side, there are plenty of places like that. We just have to find em. I know that our gang has been moving around a bit in the ANF areas because the deer have crashed in the poor habitat areas. We have our best success in the clearcuts and on public ground that adjoins private agriculture.

It baffles me when I see some guys hunt the same terrible habitat year after year and expect the results to improve

If you are so happy to share this location with me,why don't you share it with everyone and i'll post it on several other MBs. We will do our very best to insure the PGC's HR goals are met in order to insure the adequate regeneration of commercially valuable trees.

Are you telling us you got an invitation out of the blue to hunt public land around 200 miles from where you live and without any PS scouting you saw 40 deer in one evening on stand?

No, I go to school at Penn State, so I found this land because it was close to school and I could get there quick after classes were over. I was looking at maps of places to hunt in the area and found this land and went out during the second week of archery to scout and the first night there I saw 5 bucks and 2 does so I came back and I kept seeing more deer so I continued hunting there

So you are saying that the local hunters who have been hunting centre Co. for many years aren't smart enough to hunt an area with high deer densities, even though the pGC is claiming the harvests in that WMU are keeping the herd stable?
can you please explain why the habitat in that area can support over 100 DPSM when the PGC says the habitat can support less than 15 DPSM? Remember ,you can't include the corn and soybeans because the PGC only considers forested habitat as suitable deer habitat.

I never said there are over 100 dpsm there, i just used a special deer call that brought those 40 something deer in from miles away. So yes at that second there were over 100 dpsm if you wanna say that, but the surrounding areas had 0 dpsm since they all came running in so averaged out it is the perfect number 15 that the pgc wants. That is the secret I wasnt telling you guys but I guess I gotta go ahead and give away the secret. Those other hunters that hunted here in the past didnt have my special call so they werent able to bring all the deer in. Im not trying to get in a big argument here, all I was trying to say is there are areas in the state with a lot of deer on public land that are huntable by anyone. I dont know why it always has to come back to pgc goals with you. But hopefully that is a legit enough answer

And i dont see anywhere where I said that hunters in the past were not smart enough to hunt where deer densities are high so I dont appreciate you putting words in my mouth. Especially when you criticize people in other threads for assuming things that arent actually said. It works both ways, dont criticize people and start arguments over things that you do as well

I would take BB's wild theories as a compliment there Jason. It's what he does when he gets frustrated hearing about a succesful hunters results. Obviously your success ruffled some of those blue feathers.
