"The Good Old Days"

Here is a successful hunt from the 20's-30's.
They dressed in shirt and tie and brought along a band as well.
Are we expecting too much for too little these days?
I do not know if this was in Pa. It is a long ago photo from my wife's family.

Look at the size of that deer as well.

Neat pic Greg!

Gosh thats a tiny deer!

Gotta wonder if someone shot it or if the accordian drove it to commit suicide;)

that is good pic
now we hunt in orange suits no ties

I'm surprised you missed the obvious browse line. No wonder the deer was small.;)

BTW, I think your bias is showing, I'll explain why later. Maybe you and Liv need new glasses.

RE: "The Good Old Days"

I have no history on the picture, and truthfully, it is possible they were not even hunting. Maybe they ran the deer over with the stagecoach!
I just wanted to share a neat picture. It is an original photograph in pristine condition. Who here even wears a tie to work, let alone to the woods?
That deer probably starved from living in a mature forest.

You are on to something... I see 3 instruments and no weapons. Cool pic but exactly what was going on here?

Keep speculating....this could get fun!
It almost looks like a muley in the face but dang it is so little to be a mule deer.

Those are some awful big listeners on that deer.

looks like a goat? I wouldn't have shot it. Before i put my glasses on I thought it was a rabbit laying on front!

RE: "The Good Old Days"

It took me a while Greg but I figured it out!

You managed to get a hold on a picture of Bluebird and his crew with the last deer they harvested!

I had to look really close but those 1/2" nubbins on his head really gave it away. The other clue was the missing front feet!.

Thats the last venison for that crew but thanks to their leader, they've feasted well on crow ever since

They certainly look neat and well groomed, not one with a mountain man beard. Thanks for sharing that picture with us, no matter where it was taken.

Iff'n they'da all had mounain man beards, they would've had em whacked and stacked with lotsa big racks!

RE: "The Good Old Days"

You really are about as ignorant as a stump. Many of the pictures from that era show successful hunters in coats and ties. what we do know is that those hunters were hunting in an area where the forests hadn't been harvested recently which also means the herd had not exploded in their area.

RE: "The Good Old Days"

I'm not going to touch that one because you have a beard.

We had a guy hunting with us a few years back that had a beard like you, it was a bitter cold day andhe chewed tobacco, whenever he spit the juice didn't completely clear his beard. There was no way that I could eat my lunch with him around and those little brown frozen icecles. [:'(]

Do you chew?

Ahhh Bob, the mystery is solved!
The mysteryshrouded Navy Raptor Gang dressed up and played orchestra music to commemorate the killing of the fabled tender weenie buck.
I have insider info that the legendary Birdblue Lawrence himself did the bloodletting and is indeed pictured at pole postion layingo' hands on the rare prize.
They have since disbanded in protest of the new age of visible antlers.

Thanks for sharing that photo with us livbucks. I downloaded the photo to one of my Corel programs, to see if I could zoom in on the deer, goat, dog? What ever it is,doesn't look like there is much meat on those bones.Doesn't matter though. I enjoy those photos from the so called "Days of Yore"[/align]

I'll dig around and see whats here. The wife is heavy into that scrapbooking stuff so it shouldn't be too hard to find some picsbut it also means I gotta hook up the cantankerous contraption [:@]we have here that used to be a scanner and only occasionally decides to do it's job.

No I don't chew. Neverhave.Somehow, however, I have no problem believing that guy was one of your hunting party.

You seem to have an unnatural obsession with beards. Did a bearded guy open a big can of whoopass on you sometime in your past? Maybe a bearded guy shot the buck you thought should've been yours? Or is it just that you simply don't have enough testosterone to grow one?

Cant remember eh? Maybe this'll help. Didja have on your longjohns? Didja work up a sweat draggin that monster out? Did you have to tie it down so the blowflies didn't carry it off? Did it still have milk on it's lips?

When you shot, did you pick a spot or did you just shoot for one of the white spots?

Never got dumped on by a guy with a beard, although I know one that tries. Born in '42, shaved, had sideburns and a faint mustache, in '57, get your fingers and toes out, figure it out yourself. Grew a mustache again in the '70, didn't like sitting at my desk and drinking coffee through hair.

I've hunted with all classes of people over the years, didnt care if a guy wore a suit and tie to work or if his clothes stood up at the end of the day, from sweat and dirt. Perhaps that the reason that I think of the one or two day hunter, as equal as the guy that hunts most of every season.

I even find it harder to believe that he would spend any money on buying thedog milk bones. With all thedoe and fawns that he and his buddy Doug shoot, figured the dog lived on deer meat and roadkill.

Greg, we owe these guys both a big debt of gratitude. whatever our differences, they have had the good sense and courtesy to not post any pics of themselves.

Till you posted the yesteryear pic, I had no idea what Bluebird looked like. I will say His deer was just about what I'd have expected

It's easier to shave than trim a mustache every day. My threadcount is still pretty good except on top of my head. My widows peak and cowlick are having a race towards each other, so far the widows peak is ahead 3 to 1. It sure isn't fair went I get a few hairs cut, price keep going up as the quantity goes down. I like to refer to my hairdo as a reverse mohawk.

I'll stack the quality of my average post against yours any day. When was the last time you actually made a contribution to a thread that didn't involve either some kind of echo to BB or a mere cut and paste?

In my day we called them something else and you could smack them around if they made a pass at you.

I think most of the guys on here are straight, but I'd keep a close eye on the trophy hunters and doe slayers.
